According to VR-Zone, AMD will launch ATI Radeon HD 4890 graphics card based on RV790 graphics core in April. The RV790XT core runs at clockspeed of 850MHz and is likely to be paired with GDDR5 memory clocked at 975MHz. The brand new RV790 core will have 960 stream processors and 48 texture units.

The current high-end Radeon HD 4870 carrying RV770 core runs at 750MHz core clock speed and 900MHz memory clock speed.

The Radeon HD 4890 will be introduced in two versions - standard edition and overclocked edition. The OC edition will beat HD 4870 with 25-30 percent performance boost with 1GB GDDR5 memory. The standard edition HD 4890 is expected to be launched sometime in mid-April and the OC edition's launch will follow by end-April.

Many are considering this as a rumor as no further details are available online. However, it's likely that AMD would be thriving to roll out new high-end cards after Nvidia's recent announcement of GeForce GTX 285 and 295 graphics.

I wonder if it is going to be worth it?
