Nice to see ATI getting things going like this. Especially good to see them concentrating on key performance issues like scaling in Fear 2.

Do the X2 numbers also reflect 2 cards in xfire?

This drivers suck, and for some reason I can't make the 8.12 hotfix work, I install them then after reboot it says that can't find my card.. those are the fastest drivers yet :\

No "Quadcore optimization". Just some profile and single app optimization. So much for that hype.

Haha, would be funny if he had one. I like what Xbit is doing with these quick reviews after new driver releases. It's really useful to see if the IHV's claims come to fruition. 9.2 seems to really just be a FEAR 2 CF fix.

Not gettin the quadcore optimisations we were promiced, not really tested properly yet tho. Seeing a nice increase in fps in GRID.

Your trolling mode keeps on going. Hope you have some 2009 with Nvidia complete dominance or HD 4850=3870 and HD 4870=3870 OC :ROTF:

I'd like to see the same review done with a Phenom, since as has been shown, performs better at higher resolutions especially in graphics limited situations. Perhaps then we'd see even better performance boost. Who knows, maybe not, but we'll sure as h.ll never know if no reviewers do it.

There was some hype, not from AMD, just from forum posters expecting huge gains across the board.

Well.. when they promise 20% boost in crysis just to get way worse performance it is HYPE from AMD :)

Crysis improvements my arse! Got a +1 fps on High/DX10, and no improvent on Very High/DX10.

9.1 was better.

I had same problem couple days ago, it wouldn't detect my card, as i reverted to 8.12 hotfix from 9.1 which has CTD's on atiumdag.dll.

Install regular Catalyst 8.12, reboot, install 8.12 hotfix on top of it, yes no uninstall, it will do an "upgrade" then reboot again. Computer works flawless now.

I am using 9.1's and no problems.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

I won't be upgrading drivers until I need to for game support. As it stands, I play Fear 2 at 4xAA 16XAF 1680x1050 at a solid 55-60 fps. Capped at vsync anyways means there is no need for 130 fps.

Think I'll skip these drivers.

PC Games Hardware Review of Cat 9.2 RC1 (http://www.pcgameshardware.de/aid,676773/Treiber-Test-Catalyst-92-RC1-beschleunigt-Radeon-Grafikkarten-deutlich/Grafikkarte/Test/). From my experience I am noticing improvements in Grid, COD:WAW, etc.

I haven't tested these out too much but, so far these are better than 9.1 imo. I can't wait to try out F.E.A.R. 2 with these drivers.

on windows xp i have never seen a performance boost from a driver update in a year. this is the first driver update that has done anything for me and i got gains not losses.

Well.. when they promise 20% boost in crysis just to get way worse performance it is HYPE from AMD :)

I guess this is where problems begin, when people read "up to 20% boost" and make it into "20% boost promised". Some people just can't get it right

There is a huge improvement(read fix) in FEAR2 with 4870X2. Other than that it is same as 9.1.

8.12's were a disaster for me. 9.1's slightly fixed those issues however not completely, but there's a chance those were caused with 8.12 left overs. When Im done with OC testing Ill do a complete re-install of OS etc, and of course 9.2's. Although Ive no idea wtf people are crying 9.2's are overhyped, Im pretty much happy to see 9.2's to be out since issues I had with 8.12's are most likely gone, but 9.1's were a lot more overhyped than 9.2's.

Also an up to xx% boost ain't a guaranteed promised boost for everyone, Im surprised to read people were actually excpecting that in here:shakes:

yea idk what the whole hype thing is about. i didn't know a thing about 9.2 until the day it was released.

Shintai

It came from something like this and a bunch others.

Catalyst 9.2 are meant to be the first drivers from ATI that are Multi threaded & make better use Dual & Quad Core CPUs.

1) false 9.1 or 9.2 will be the release of multithreaded drivers and on top of the normal improvments that come with any driver release the 4870 will once again be the better card the the 260 216. If it isnt then I guess I will eat my shoe :fact:

Use the 8.12 hotfix..

Only differance is that the 9.1's dont have multi core fix and appear to be little slower ATM.

AMD will incorparate another hotfix for this with multicore enabled sometime probally next week or just before the 9.2 release OMG,, When exactly i dont know , this is all ATm ive found for 9.1's:mad:

fear2 xfire fixed
world in conflict boost
3dmark vantage boost

nvidia gave their cards a bigger boost with 182.96, but who knows at what iq costs... thats whats lacking on xbitlabs driver reviews... but besides that, its great to see driver reviews like this! :)

Catalyst 9.2 RC1 accelerates Radeon cards noticeably

AMD's new Catalyst 9.2 WHQL is available and we have run a lot of benchmarks with the RC1 version which is identical in performance matters.

ATI Catalyst 9.2 Analysis - XP & Vista

As another month almost closes to an end, we see that the ATI driver team is just able to sneak out a new driver release in time. No doubt with the short month and the late release of the 9.1s, the driver team had to be on their toes to get a release out in their usual monthly fashion.

The good news, however, is that this month it seems the driver team hasn't been sitting down and just working on those boring bug fixes. They have given us the promise of extra performance, which is always nice to see.
