I underestimated these EE's.....I figured maybe 28k would be about the limit but since these guys have ES's that makes all the difference in the world...and with the XT now even higher is possible...
30k is very close now....which originally I thought we wouldn't see until the new cards come out in the spring.

Hehe, don't count out the A64/FX51 platform yet, still a newborn and learning to crawl. The p4 platform is a seasoned vetern and aproaching the end of the road.

the fx chip is mighty powerful, but its mobos are all terrible & the overall cost is more for an fx rig than a p4ee one, assuming you already have a mobo from your old "C" chip.

I wouldnt count them out yet. Besides there are/will be many more A64 3200+/FX-51 owners then the P4 3.2EE ($900 lol i cna get a mach ii for that for price...much better investment imho)

($900 lol i cna get a mach ii for that for price...much better investment imho) Of course, unlike high-end FX systems, EE buyers won't have to buy new mobos and RAM.
The money is a push; you're going to go broke with AMD or Intel if you want to be on the first page of the Orb, my brotha.

not really, i dont think a normal person would spend more than 400$ on a cpu... far away from the 1000$ itll cost in retail ^^

I am a normal person, just a joe blow on the street, a soldier in the US Army. Guess what? I am buying one. Why you ask? Because I can. I work hard for my money and can spend it anyway I want.
People buy extreme things everyday for their own little hobby. Maybe it's dropping $2000 for golf clubs, $10,000 for hookers, $30,000 for a bass boat, or even $80,000 for a Vette that they will more than likely rarely get over 100 MPH. People spend their money on what makes their boat float and makes them feel good.
I am sure at some time every member in here has bought something that was very expensive that all the people around them were like "what the hell are you doing" It's just part of being a human and wanting something nice for yourself. Being able to say you have the best and not the same thing every other joe blow has.
I hope I didn't offend anybody with this, but I find myself getting more annoyed everyday as I read comments in threads about somebody being crazy for spending so much money. My advice, don't worry about what other people spend their money on and enjoy what you spent your hard earned money on :toast:

11-03-2003, 03:43 AM
i agree.. a high-end system doesn't come close to the expenses that other hobbyists have to handle (hifi anyone? ;)), but then again, "normal" people don't look at a high-end system as an investment as much as a bass boat is for a guy who likes to fish. but hey, if you can afford it, and it is your hobby, then why not..

Damn nice score Fugger!!
I'm wondering what OPP can do for us with that videocard and his AMD... yes peeps it's done with an Intel once again :)
Gotta love these 'battles' eh? ;)

Seems that OPP only had the 28K nr.1 crown for 1 day :p:
And suddenly there's 1000 points more for Fugger... omg
I hated when my 16k4 score got crushed by 10k, but now it looks like it's going to be doubled in the not too distant future :D

Nice job Fugger ! I'm far more impressed with those EE's after seeing your results.
Good point Ranger2992, ten years ago I co-owned a speed shop in Canada. We were racing in the U.S. one weekend and returned to find the shop had been broken into. When we were talking to the police listing the missing items, their jaws dropped when they heard the value/cost of the items (superchargers, Hillborn injection unit, etc.) Until my partner questioned what the officer spent on his boating hobby, he didn't understand.

Yeah guys do whatever makes you feel happy. Personally I love spending money. I am a joblesss 16yr old but I got some $10k in my bank account (got it for free off a stranger lol).
The comments about "this is too expensive" are really annoying. It maybe too expensive or not worth the money for someone but the person who buys it obvisouly has a good reason for doing so.
Another of my hobbies besides computers is collecting amanda bynes autographed photos. I spent a fortune on them. Why you ask? Becuase amanda bynes is damn hot!

incredibly amazing, my athlon xp is crumbled to dust and left for a crack head to try a quick fix by your p4 ee. if i had the money, i think i would get it, but i have a low paying, part-time job, pay for my own car insurance and gas, and have enough for small time parts. it takes me awhile to save enough money for something like that. maybe someday...

Well, it's all well and good to say this chip is cheaper, but it isn't for those who don't have a 875 board and the latest RAM.
For the very few who can afford 1K CPU's is fine and I wish them well. But Intel will sell very, very few of these as such prices.
I"m try'n to decide which I'll buy the P4 3.2 or go on wiating for somebody to make a Xtreme motherboard for the Athlon64, and also hope'n AMD releases the XP3400+ soon.
As long as the Athlon64 was delayed I expected better motherboards to go with it.....disapointing.
If I don't buy soon (P4 3.2) I may as well wait till spring and see what the motherboards and chips of the 939 type look like.

Your going have to wait a long time there pal. When the technology will come out in the spring it will be very immature and buggy just like the current A64 mobos out now.
I would suggest getting a P4 3.2C right now for about $400...You can get up to 3.6~3.8Ghz w/ it on good air cooling and 4.2+ on phase/water..
If this is a system you wish to keep for a few years then go with the A64 3200+ w/ the Gigabyte nf3 mobo or the chaintech

huh? intel is already making 90nm chips for weeks now and it works great, they only have some major issues with their chip design they need to fix, but the manufacturing process works great. i dont think amd will have a lot of probs to shrink to 90nm, the opteron is just an upgraded athlon and athlons have always been easy to shrink because of their simple and robust design.
there will be 90nm a64s in Q1 already and a lot of them in Q2 it seems.

Not true, Intel already has made 90nm CPUs and they don't have problems with their fab process. The article I read said AMD is not ready to make the move.

It's pretty much the 1k EE vrs. the $400 Athlon 64 3200+. I think AMD did pretty well. Brand spanking new sweetness cpu usually top at 600 or so no?
Think stock for a second. The 3200+ has 200MHz less than the FX but and half the memory channels and holds its own. It's a shame AMD doesnt have more rescources, cuz I think the FX without registered memory would make for an interesting clash of the $800FX and the 1k EE titans!
I get what some say with the buy what you want thing, but some are directly comparing the price of the highest AMD vrs Intel and thats not really right in this 3dmark competition or thread. AMD's 3d mark chip right now is the 3200+, not a "little cheaper" by any means.
CONGRATS BTW!

Yeah texus is right. A64 3200+ stock vs P4 3.2EE does hold this own and were talking about a $600 price difference. Job well done AMD ... if you would only get some decent mobos now but heck thats up abit * asus
