My card is stuck in 3d clocks all the time i really really want to change this because its getting to hot with the fan being turned down to 30% where its pretty quiet...i dont want a blower going at idle :D
also im using a top bios and CCC wont let me lower the clocks at all..i can only go higher from 800/1000
any suggestions?
im using driver 8.56.1 (says Prerelease WDDM 1.1) idk :)
and CCC 9.1
any help is appreciated..

its an issue because win7 is STILL IN BETA MODE
not done for another YEAR. ppl cant possibly expect things to work with a broken OS thats not even halfway finished.:nono:
and why are you creating ANOTHER thread linking to a thread YOU ALREADY CREATED?:nono:

um...so more people can see it..i posted in video card and os section since it happens to be an issue with the two..
also im not expecting it to be perfect..but how do you think stuff gets fixed? by figuring the problems out..so as im trying to come to a solution i was checking to see if people had advice that is actually helpful to obtain my goal of making this work correctly..not someone to spill nonsense and do aboslutely NOTHING to help the situation...
why did u respond in BOTH threads with NOTHING helpful? thats probably a good question you should of asked yourself..

I had to try different drivers with my 295 in windows 7. There was only one that allowed ANY 3d to work. The other drivers crash when loading.

the driver works fine so it seems..its just the card gets very hott when idling since its always in 3d clocks..i have tried a couple different drivers and CCC but none with success..i sat a 120mm on top the card to blow down on the heatsinks to try and help and it seems to be working for now...i REALLY need a waterblock for this card..the fan for the 4870x2 is WAY to loud

What are yout talking about hot? For these cards I wouldn't even worry for 60C as long as the loads didn't go crazy which is like 100C+. I've left my fan at 30% and forgot to up it for FEAR2 now 3 times and it didn't overheat hehe :) Now crysis would have been another story.

Its closer than you think. Someone here said RTM February but I've not been able to find anything showing that. Anyway I couldn't get my RAID drivers to load for windows 7 and installed Vista. The SSD performance difference annoyed me. I got the newer RAID drivers and formatted back to 7 in less than 30 minutes.

i guess i could leave it at 30% and just let it sit at 90C but..i really dont wanna let it idle that high for hours..i dont usually turn my computer off..
so id like it to run in 2d clocks while its idling so i can make the comp silent..
and what im worried about is the memory..the heatsinks get so hot i cant put my finger on them for a second..i did put the fan and maybe that will be enough but i dont wanna leave it there haha..i mean i guess itll work til its either fixed or until i get a waterblock..

90C is a little much for idle. For my 295 its in the 50's idle with the fan turned down. With Fear2 it got up to 85C during my testing this morning but that was still with the fan set at 30%.

yea it wouldnt be that high if it wasnt running 3d clocks all the time..but it is..and thats my issue i want to get it back to 2d clocks :)
i don't know if this will help much, but i'm running windows 7 64bit with a 4870x2. at first i used the cat 8.12 pre-release driver for windows 7. then i install cat 9.1 that was released for vista. card runs/idle in 2d. when i run a game card goes into 3d mode with gpu/mem in high speed. after i quit out, it goes back to 2d lower speeds mode. i'm tempted to try cat 9.2, but i didn't get around to it. i'll try this weekend.
