one thing i have never attempted is to mod a cd drive, let alone a slim loading one what i'm looking to do is have an eject button hidden on the case but i cant figure this bad boy out,

having removed the front facia of the drive im stared at by this

obviously the eject and led button. what im unsure about is because its a push button there where in hell would i solder the wires! must admit i feel a little out of my depth it doesnt help that the damn screws are so small on the drive and wont unscrew either!!! any ideas???

You don't really see that much from that picture. Maybe you can remove some more plates? or is that hard? Or take away the shiny bit to see if you get some place to solder.

My best and completely uneducated guess, (so dont trust anything i say until someone confirms or proves me completley wrong:up:)
Is that those two leads coming out of the silver button thingy, when connected (which i think the silver thingy does when it is pushed down) eject the dvd/cd tray. Sooooo this leads me to believe that if you manage to solder the cables to your button onto those things it will in effect be the new eject button:shrug: but im not too sure or sure at all actually. I know there are different types of buttons that do different things with the signal/current(not sure what it is called) some leave it on when you click and others do a quick burst on/off when you click. I think you would need the second type.

Okay im done sounding stupid now:yepp: As you can see i know none the proper terms for any of this, and this is all theoritcal on my part. but maybe just maybe i kinda helped.

PS: to any electrical experts that might read this...I apologize for butchering your profession:rofl:

That silver part is the button. You push that down and it makes contact with a plate underneath it. If you look at the traces, there is one going to the rounded "bubble" top part of the button, then the contact underneath is probably connected to the big trace that covers the majority of that little board, which is a ground/return line (notice the LED hooks to that as well).
