How do you set the fsb from within CrystalCPUID?? It's getting very tedious going into BIOS every 10 seconds and I'd like to determine where the top end is on this CPU ??
Here's a taste at 1.775V before I Vmod the mobo...

I wish I could tell you, but I dont know

your going to bench with your xt & that chip soon right?

Yeah sure....
I'm just playing around a bit now to find some limits, and later I'll put the XT under Dry Ice ALSO.... because 471/429 just isn't enough to do much damage on the ORB... :D
Fugger has absolutely NOTHING to worry about, lol....but a few other scores might ;)

Charlie, any scores to report?

what the fugg is that in performance rating?

Nothing to write home about...
I'm out of Dry Ice right now, but can get some this afternoon. A few quick observations, punching up the CPU speed so much and all the boots and re-boots tends to corrupt the HDD and such...
This CPU loves Voltage, I'll do the Vmod later so I can punch 2V at her...I wasn't REAL happy about the temps on Asus Monitor, only -27C at idle, hopefully it's not accurate, and the temps are better.
But for now, the scores at 2.8V and 470/428 are "good" :D

So does anyone know how to change FSB from within Windows???

Oh, it's got MORE left...that was still at good mem timings and ONLY 1.775V. I even ran game 1 Car Low at that speed :D
I'll have it WELL over 3G tonight.
But I really need to learn how to adjust fsb in windows?? CrystalCpuid? or the Nvidia one?? CrystalCPuid works, but I can't find where to push for fsb adjustment, and the readme.txt is in Japanese!

Back on air now, inspected the board for condensation... this is actually an EXCELLENT board for DI/Phase Change, lots of space around CPU, and the backplate is excellent for getting good contact, just use #4-40 threaded rods as anchors! I'm re-installing the O/S and changing some benching optimizations and I'll put it back under DI this evening along with the XT.

Good luck with 3G (dont think you'll need it though :D) !

Nice :)

So does anyone know how to change FSB from within Windows???
Your using the NF3 mobo rite?
Try nVidia sysutil (http://www.nvidia.com/object/sysutility_1.0)
If it doesn't work then there is pretty much nothing you can do about it (clockgen etc wont work since NF3 does't have external PLL chip, its all in the SB).

yea, the nvidia system utility is the only thing i can think of. what kind of FSB can you get? any chance at something like 270x12 with the 5:4 divider? seems like something like that would have a real chance at breaking 30k if you could get your card around 550/425.

Slight speedbump or 2 here...
Got a bit of condensation around socket giving stability fits...
Am drying out now w/ hairdryer. Wondering whether I should remove IHS??? Afraid to damage core with DI tube base...
Never stopped running, just got reallly unstable. In earlier testing with dry iced 9800XT I got 25,209 @ 531/431 @ 2386mHz. What do you guys think? Is there 26K in there?

charlie,
that's some amazing clocks my man:) yeah use nVidia's utility but i'm not sure if it works on your mobo.

Just send that sucker to me and I'll make the
FSB changes for ya at regular intervals. FedEx

Kudo's on your fine work their my man. DI
is killer.

i think there's alot more than 26k in there if you can benchmark at close to 3ghz!

if it does 3.1ghz+ witha high fsb and your card likes the dry ice 29K+ should be no problem :)

i would remove the ihs, if your too scared to kill it better dont do it, thats a really nice chip you have there! highest ive seen so far was 3.3ghz with ln2, would be too bad if you kill it trying to take of the ihs... just slap some liters of dielectric grease on your board :D

charlie, if you dont get above 27k it is a disappointment in my book

good luck!

Thanks guys,
It looks like I'm going to have to do the 9800XT Vmod, I'm a bit disappointed at 539/433 @ 1.81V Hopefully it'll get better. The CPU runs OK... I tried running at 2850 and I couldn't quite complete 1 test, with more voltage I think I can go farther.
Just as a side note, in testing I broke 500 for drago low...pretty good. Still having problems loading 3dmark results...

saaya

2v shouldnt be a prob, with dry ice you can probably even run 2.5v without smoking the chip :D

Charlie, can you tell me whats the best bios for the board and where to get it? Is there a special way to flash it or just the normal routine stuff?

I'm on 1003.006. Follow the directions on the website using the ".exe" command after booting with a separate boot disk.

do you think you can hit #1 with higher fsb and your current 540/433 card clocks? lets say at 12x230 or something like that?

charlie
11-02-2003, 07:42 AM
Quad,
I don't think it'll go #1, the EE's are performing SOOOO well... but I'll give it a go! It's benching much better today ??

Charlie, how high can you run on FSB? You have the parts and cooling for 28K but the horsepower just isnt showing up yet.

Oh, and definately find a way to get 2k on that rig. :) 300+ free points.

not bad scores man. yeah, even i picked up a few hundred extra 3dmarks points from win 2000 on my wimpy rig.

Hallowed,
It's the chipset/Reg. DDR, 230 is about it...I even tried using 9 multi, maybe using the Vdimm mod and feeding the CH-5 3.2V might help. I'll get the score up...the board is quite flakey, I need to figure out why I run artifact-free at 540/430 but LOSE points now...26,062 @ 2637 520/425 and 25,998 @ 2708 540/430.

Charlie, I get a bit more out of 2-3-3-6 but your right, the xhipset on this particular board is limiting. I can't really tell if the vdim mod over 3v helps or hurts.

To get fsb up with crystal, you have to use nvidia system utility. You set crystal, then set nvidia syt. utility fsb back up to where you want it and then press the checkmark and it sticks till reboot. Use the 10/30/03 verison of crystal.

have you tried the 1004.001 bios at all. Was it any different tha 1003.006 for you?
