this "processor" is 12x12cm tall and all it can do is do some very very simple calculations. this doesnt really have anything to do with future optical pc procesors we will see in some years.

"Processing at the speed of light, you can have safer airports, autonomous military systems, high-definition multimedia broadcast systems and advanced next-generation communications systems."

Oh yay! Skynet, lol! :D

Is this the end of all we know -
Innocence lost so long ago
Woven in dreams - the darkest of
schemes now takes hold of our destiny
Decades of greed, plague, famine and
war - we can't go on like this anymore
living like fools - chaos will rule this
eternal paradise

Wait a minute... I'm going to play the role of an idiot here... And point out that electricity travels at the speed of light (right?)... So what the hell kind of advantage is optical transmission, anyway? :stick:

Somebody explain.

good point!

actually it travels close to the speed of light,
not at the speed of light, at the speed if light
is an oxymoron people dont realize it.

so if this chip works at the speed of light if you over clocked it would you go back in time?

Heheehe,

I hope so! I'd clock the thing back about 20 years. Talk about insider trading! !

:ROTF: roflomao :D

electrons slow down all the time because they hit other electrons and get influenced by the atoms polarities, photons dont. the smaller you build the cricuits the more electrons just vanish and leave the traces, so you need stronger impulses wich means more heat and more elctromigration, the traces corrode. atm anything smaller than 45nm is said to be impossible, maybe well find a way to go as small as 30nm but thats it, we will need to move to photonic processing then.
