I built an htpc for my parents mostly out of old parts from my main computer (rig 1 in sig) and bought new stuff for my main pc. I put in my old 780i which worked fine, 2x2 gigs of ram which worked fine, 8800 gts g92 which worked fine also. I put everything in, fire it up and I heard a small pop, smelled smoke and shut the pc off. At the time, I had my tracers in it since I didn't get my ram in the mail yet. I remembered that I had the voltage for ram at 2.3 in bios and thought it was the ram. I put the ram in my main rig (let's call it p45 to save time). The tracers worked fine, and overclock fine etc.

The new ram gets here in the mail and they are 2x2 kingston 1066 which also worked fine on the p45. I put everything together in the new case, add my psu which is a corsair 650 tx, and toss in a hard drive with a blu-ray drive. I connect everything, fire it up, get the code FF on the 780i which means everything works fine. However, I don't get anything on my display, it just stays off. I tried it on my tv (HDMI) and nothing either, it just says no signal. I toss the 8800 gts back into the p45 and it works fine.

What the hell happened? I pulled the battery, nothing happened. Hard drive and dvd drives fire up etc, but nothing on the screen. I unplugged everything except for the main components and still nothing. Tried every single stick of ram I have and nothing. I also tried reseating the cpu and nothing either...what happened? What was that small pop and smell of smoke that happened the first time? What's fried? Btw, the 3 lights on the 780i light up meaning that everything is working. I have no clue what is going on...please help.

dead MB, FF with no post is dead on NV chipsets, get a real board (intel chipset or amd am2+) and give them an ati card in it there is nothing worse than blue ray on a NV card when u have an ati card that u have sitting there (like that 2900 in your sig)

the cheapest solution would be an am2 and a 780gx MB but make sure it dosnt have display port

Crap...I knew that the damn thing was going to die soon! It was giving me a lot of trouble when I have it in rig 1, it refused to overclock past 3.2 on my Q9450 and I can do 3.8 24/7 with the p45. Guess it's gonna take a while to get it back in the mail now...

Edit: How can I check if its a PSU cap? PSU is brand new btw, it hasn't even been on for 1 hour yet.
