Umm, wide open field here.
IMO $200 US is plenty for a good 20-22" LCD (all use the same 1680x1050 resolution), $300 will get you a good 24"
Look at www.newegg.com for starters, Asus, Acer, Hanns-G,
3 solid LCDs under $200:

and one glitzed out with specs:

if you act now you can get a 26" asus on new egg for $360. It falls just over your budget, or could save $15 and get the acer 24". I bought it for work and its nice!

Look around for a Samsung 24". I highly recommend their LCD's.
Well i don't want a bigger screen than 22''. And yesterday i got to a computer store to see monitors and i think that even 22'' is too much for me. I was thinking of 20'' but i have heard that they are not good because of their pixel size...
What about a 19''?

19 is bad because it runs at the same resolution as 17" screens thus everything seems a bit more zoomed in, think street signs in Florida vs. the rest of the nation.
I'd strongly recommend at least 20" because that gives you 1680x1050, with some web pages these days going smaller is going to feel a bit cramped.
IMO there's nothing wrong with 20" screens, since 20 to 22" screens have the same resolution (mostly, some are 1080p which is 1920x1080) so that 2" delta in size will only affect the pixel pitch.
In case you don't know pixel pitch is a measure of how far apart the pixels are, thus a 22" screen will have a higher pitch than a 20" screen. There is no 'standard' pitch, however 19", 22", and 26" screen all have larger pitches than 17, 20, and 24" screens.
Out of curiosity what are you running now that 20" seems large? Laptop? Trust me when I say the size will grow on you. I started with a 15" CRT back in the day, went through 17 and 19" CRTs then jumped to a 20.6" widescreen LCD, now I'm on a 24" LCD and looking to get a 2nd (30" just takes too much video power to drive for my budget).
Now i am on a 9 year 15'' CRT :)

i am interested in the 1080p 22"ers myself.
i dont know if they are anything that flash in the color department...but response and res. seems appealing.
certainly they are priced well.
i think dell and benq do them, not sure of others aswell?
my 21" crt still going strong though at this point.
i think 1920x1080 (or 1200) is defo the way to go as a 4870 or equiv will handle that res mostly.
...but ive heard that the benq may be problematic with hd video..not sure.

I have the Hanns.G 28" monitor and it's just outside your budget as well - $369.99 at newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254026).
If you are buying a monitor specifically for gaming it's better to get a big monitor rather than a small one, seeing that the prices are so low at the moment and the higher res really makes the games look and play nice. I could have spent almost twice as much on a 24" with the same resolution, and that would have been stupid.
Think real hard about getting a 22" when you can have a 26" or 28", as suggested by others. :yepp:

I'm using a 24" BenQ G2400WD. Don't see anything wrong with it.

it's the number 1 rated 1900X1200 LCD monitor for gaming, and the number 2 LCD monitor at any resolution for gaming on anandtech.
