I don't think there is a performance difference. AFAIK even the 3.5" drives are 2.5 between a heatsink.

From the product pages, here's the differences I can see:
253,97 euro
HLFS version - IcePack included, Backplane compatible, non-standard SATA usage
WD VelociRaptor 300GB 3,5" SATA II (Rückwandplatinen)
http://www3.hardwareversand.de/resource?articleId=23470&size=0
229,94 euro
GLFS version - IcePack included, non-backplane, use as a standard SATA drive
Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB SATA II
http://www3.hardwareversand.de/resource?articleId=22208&size=0
267,06 euro
BLFS version - bare drive, no IcePack included, use in a 2.5" carrier such as the Startech 4x2.5" in a 5.25" bay adapter (SATABAY425BK)
WD VelociRaptor 300GB 2,5" SATA II

They are the exact same drives, it just depends on how you're using them.

Unless you have a backplane, you'll want the normal version which is the 2nd one. The first one doesnt use a standard sata plug, and the third one doesnt have the icepack which is the 2.5" to 3.5" adapter.

If so,why does ocz only back these drive during 2 years instead of 5years for the raptor series?

I'm a proug owner of three GLFS Velociraptors and the only thing that can piss you off is you can't put it intro the USB Docking station because they back connectors aren't standardized so I'd say GLFS ... + 25 Euro for nothing , you won't put in HDD's intro Docks as I do :hehe:

Dunno about Saimo's budget, but the per drive cost is also waaaay more expensive.

Because, dude, WD and replacement VR drives will still exist in 5years, can you say the same for OCZ, and the fact if they even will make SSDs.
But in all honesty I would never expect them to offer longer warranty simply because from their stand point if it breaks on you they will have to give you something WAY faster and better.
I guess some could even get the crazy idea to fry their drives in a few years and get newer faster ones for free... but that would be unfair now would it...

not so (assuming a few things):
if he's after a fast OS drive, & doesnt need more than 60GB:
VR *300GB* (as he mentioned in OP) is ~USD$230+
& gets him ~120MB/s max read
2x OCZ 30GB Vertex is 2x USD$130 = USD$260 - slightly more expensive.. & gets him (in R0) ~370MB/s max read
so I'd say waaaay more expensive is incorrect - its 30ish $ more for a max read speed that is ~70MB/s shy of 4x that of the VR300  :fact:
(& thats not taking into account the huge increase in write speed & IOPS & 0/0.1 access time ;) )
