I just installed a q9650 in the rig thats in my sig.

when i first turned on the computer i saw the first part of post, but it just hung there. so i though that maybe the bios just needed a simple reset. after resetting the bios i got no video, the fans connected to the mobo dont spin (i see a very small jitter every second or so but they never completed a rotation).
my LCD poster reads,

CUP INIT. then>
DET DRAM. then>
CHEKCMOS.

and thats ware it locks up.

I have removed and switched around my ram

and reseated the CPU. still nothing...

Did you make sure the 4 pin/ 6 pin MB plug is connected?

yea i checked that all power connectors are connected,

thing is, if i install the old CPU back into the system it boots up fine.

so is it a bad q9650???? i got it new from newegg.com

WOW, that is wak, you install the dual and it works, i am not familiar with the latest Bios but could there be an update that might make it compatible with the quad.

they are X38's right? prob came out a while ago, maybe a 65nm like the q6600 but how abut the 45's like the 9650,it's just a shot but who knows, i think you have eliminated the hardware except bios, but we need to look and see what is the latest.

I think you nailed that one systemviper
i have BIOS version 0903 and Asus says:

Support for Core 2 Quad Q9650(rev.E0,3.00GHz,1333FSB,L2:12MB) Since Bios Version 1207

Maximus Formula BIOS 1207
Support new CPUs. Please refer to our website at: http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Very Cool, you will love the Q9650, its a very fun chip, :up:plus i had the maximus se and it was a nice board too.

You should be able to get that Q9650 to 4GHz with around 1.3x volts,
i had mine on my maximus extreme @ 4 Ghz = 1.28v

Al the best with your new setup, that will kick butt especially from that 2000'series dual

I am still running the supreme too...
