:shrug:Im running windows seven beta and i was expecting something alot better than what it is...its kind of like vista with a little different look...it dosent seem any faster in real world use and the features are basically the same ..might be in a different location or a shortcut put in a more accessable place but thats all i see.
at this point me running vista ultimate I dont see any reason to go to seven when its final...i mean none..
just looking to see if any one feels the same way or am i missing something

I only installed it today so I haven't had too much time to play around with it, but so far I'm liking it. You're right, it's not a huge difference from Vista, but it's not supposed to be. It's essentially a polished Vista, which is not a bad thing IMO.

well.... i find that it works great much smoother i feel than vista loads up alot quicker im useing x64bit 6801, with the 7000 version my motherboard drivers were not at all compatible dun know why also takes abit less ram here.... although im running 8GB ram lol windows 7 is the future the beta"s are already better than the proper vista os. thats my thoughts anyway good luck. dan:up:

I've been running it since it was released and I love it. Vista sucks in comparison. the "super task bar" is a very nice addition for starters. Plus, even though its the beta, it seems more stable then vista 64. Now I am talking a stock laptop (no OC, etc). I tried installing it on my other puter but the video drivers it has seem to be flawed for that system.

You're not missing anything. Think of it as Vista service pack 2 with a new UI. Most of the work in Windows 7 is UI, the rest is somewhat less bloat and some good DirectX changes.

It's hard to think of it as a service pack when it's a payed for upgrade. I generally think of service packs as free additions. Plus, I can think of ZERO service packs in the past that have changed the interface appearance so much, or even much at all for that matter. Those 2 major details kinda kill the SP feeling pretty quickly.
It's less of a Vista SP then it is a Vista SE. And even that is stretching it seeing as the only previous SE, 98SE, wasn't as different from 98 as Win7 is from Vista in appearance alone, not mentioning the added and subtracted features.

after running seven for a month now i see it has less running in the backround..my ram useage in vista is 35% at idle and in win 7 its 24%..
but ill have to say honestly vista runs very well on my system..I know alot of people have issues with vista but not me..I am really pleased with vista..win 7 really does not seem any faster in real world use...this beta os runs very well i have to say..
but it comes down to if vista runs well on your system then spending another 200 bucks to run win 7 isnt worth it...at least not to me....
I really dont see any advantage for me to run seven as im used to vista and i personally like it, if its was buggy then id go for seven but on my amd system vista is flawless and i like the layout a little better than seven...
but this is just my opinion , kinda like assh#### everyone has one....

memory management is the biggest reason for 7 IMO. although i'm a huge MCE user so windows 7 is the greatest thing in the world to me. finally, finally, finally a smooth operating version of MCE. finally.
i loved vista, been using x64 business on PC home premium on MC and Ultimate on my lappy all since the day they were released and never had a single issue (besides the poor performance on MCE). but after using 7 for a few months now i really can't stand vista. 7 is light years faster in terms of boot speed, application launch, file access, file transfer, network speed, more stable/better overclocks. prettymuch every way you can measure speed it's faster than vista. in many cases faster than xp. functional layout is also way better than vista or any other OS.

well ive always supported vista and enjoyed it..but i do enjoy 7 much better..i cant say its faster or not since i went from a single 320gb 7200.11 to 4 raptors in raid0 when i installed 7..so obviously its MUCH faster and snappier to me in that sense..
but i do like a lot of things..the new taskbar is great..just overall i like it better..will definitely upgrade to it..

What your missing is that you should have stayed with XP Pro as they haven't made anything better since!:ROTF:

If you are only interested in old 32 bit and single core computing, then NO. you won't miss too much other then some better loading times.
For those looking forward, 7 Ultimate is now x64 mainstream and 128 bit forward as well as old backwards 32 bit compatable. 2 core or dual cores will be the mainstream and 4 - 8 will be better supported. 7 will change the way we multi task and how multi cores and CPUs and apps utilize resorces such as RAM and cache.
We all had nearly 6 years to get used to x64 but must stuck in the old school safe 32 bit. The 1st 2 years was iffy since drivers were hard to find. But as soon as the Intel x64 CPUs hit in late '04 I had way better performance then old 32 bit XP with Server 2003 x64. XP Pro x64 did just as nice and was very stable for overclocking and gaming.
I find 7 to be a lot snappier in loading of drivers and quicker resuming from S3/S4. On a quad core in x58 RAID, it is nice and smooth w/ tri-channel DDR3-2000. I can't wait to try a dual quad mobo.
However, if you must stay back in the day due to old hardware, then Server x86 was the most stable in my test. I got over XP x86 as soon as I got Server Enterprise x64 in summer of '03 and never looked back. I only moved to XP Pro x64 due to certain lack of driver function (very few and small) under true server kernal, otherwise it was great. SLI and anti virus were the hardest to come on for cheap in the early days so I had to shell out for them enterprise editions of the big name brands.

Windows 7 is basically Vista after MS has listen to all the complaints.
Windows 7 = (Vista - Problems) + New Requirements
I have been running Windows 7 on some older P4 3Ghz, 1GB/2GB of RAM and it runs very well, also on a IBM R60 laptop. Vista wouldnt even run on the same PC or on the Laptop so thats an improvement.
I run Vista on my main PC at home and it runs fine, but I would not upgrade from XP to Vista, its not worth the hassel for no real gain. I will upgrade my Vista 64 to Windows 64 when available to buy.

Well, NT 4.0 was used for the longest time, and then Microsoft mad a big technological leap with Windows 2000, which didn't take off so hot, so they took 2000 and reworked the UI and added a few tweaks and presto, they released XP a little over a year later which took off.
This is pretty much the same that has happened here. They made a giant leap over XP, but it didn't take off to well, so they are going to repolish it and release it as Windows 7 only a shot while later.

Windows 7 is only for testing purposes only. You shouldn't have downloaded it without doing any research on it. Since it's still in Beta stages, it may improve with a service pack, but I wouldnt bet on it. I think it's meant only for Core i7 processors. They load these new OS's with so much crap its unbelievable. You'll miss XP's simplicity. Some of these tests are really stupid. Whey they would run Core i7 right now is pretty stupid if you ask me. Who the hell compares an Athlon to a Core i7? If you're going to compare a Core i7, the lets compare it to something that was previously top of the line. Thats retarded. They should have shown ATI and Nvidia cards.
Here' s the testing:
