Why has nvidia gone from the 65nm to the 55...has it been done to lower production cost?

what are the benefits of changing the size of the nano meter?

will the water block for the 260/280 series work with the new 55 nm? ie-danger den blocks or say koolance ?

Its supposed to be cooler. Its a matter of debate whether it actually IS cooler.

Will the 260/280 blocks work with the new 55 nano meter though? I am thinking no for the fact that the 55nm is smaller and contact will not be sufficient.

Not sure. I'd say they wouldn't.

No, they don't work. There are new versions available.

Unfortunately the 55nm cards do not work, they've changed the card layout.

the 55nm cards have all of the ram on the front and before it was half on the front and half on the back and they changed the pwm

the 55nm cards are only to improve yields they wont improve clocks and have minimal power savings and the cards will run hotter but emit less heat

nVidia claims a 75 watt power reduction for the GTX285 (vs the GTX280), but i believe that has been subverted by the higher clock speeds (base, shader, ram). either way, the GTX285 has two 6 pin pci-x power connectors instead of one 6 pin and one 8 pin; this could be because of the new voltage regulation layout on the GTX285.

i'm waiting for the GT300 to upgrade, these new cards still can't beat my 9800GX2 (at 1900 x 1200).
