Upgrading from a Dual core to a Quad core CPU

I heard that if you install an OS with a dual core CPU and then upgrade to a Quad core, you need to reinstall the OS.
Is this true?
are there any workarounds?

Um, no. I think there are isolated instances of people that will need to uninstall dual-core optimizers and what not, but in 90% of cases an OS reinstall is not required. I migrated my drive from an E6420 to an i7 920 just fine. I had to install new chipset drivers and reinstall device drivers, but nothing processor related had to be done.
