Any thoughts on this headset? I am in the market for getting a new headset and was wondering what the people on XS thought about this one.

for gaming your better off getting a nice pair of stereo monitors which give you the best true directional sound, just make sure they are low impedance if your using onboard sound.

I HIGHLY suggest the Tritton Ax Pros.

I used them at CES and they were insanely awesome :D

I suggest trying a few out in a store though, headsets are really subjective and one I may love, you may not like at all.

+1. My Senn's HD595 are way better then any "5.1" headset I ever heard.

I hear that all the time. People suggest to get high quailty headphones and get a mic separate. This idea is hard for me to grasp because I would much rather have a mic attached to my headset. My top choice right now is the PC 350 from senn

Keep in mind that the PC350 has a relatively high impedance at 150 ohms.

This is meant to be one of the best ones out there so far: Sennheiser PC350 Pro-Gaming Headset - http://www.sennheiser.com/uk/icm_senncom.nsf/root/502141

Astro Gaming A40 Audio System

You don't have to get the Mix Amp. Although, if you have an Xbox 360, I think it'd be pretty useful.

That forthcoming Logitech G35 headset looks interesting and I'd like to test one, but its USB and I thought anything more than Stereo was beyond the capability's with USB sound? the voice disguise feature is a bit gimmicky though.
Anyway, have tried the Speedlink Medusa 5.1 and Zalman 5.1 headsets and have come to the conclusion 5.1 will never work properly, have a Sennheiser PC350 headset now for gaming, not perfect, but from the dozens of gaming headsets I've owned, its far and away the best IMHO.
For serious music you will want better quality stereo headphones of course.

Ummm, don't be denying yourself something good, just because its popular my friend :)
Cutting off your nose to spite your face was never a good idea.
If your friends bought the PC 350, they probably bought it for a good reason, its not the cheapest ... suggest you listen to Games on this headset next time you visit them, only then can you decide.

It's true. I have an old Speedlink Medusa 5.1 lying around that I got out from the cupboard a week or two ago, just for fun. I now realize why it was in the cupboard in the first place. The front-side speakers refuse to work properly, the sound is, for some reason, always more present on the left than on the right, the bass distorts at higher volumes, the whole headset shakes when there is a lot of bass, which is fun for a while, but then gets really irritating when you're constantly scratching your head to fight the ticking/itching.

Loving my KOSS SB-40's ($32 shipped I think?), also have Grados SR-60's which sound fantastic but leak sound such that people in the room can hear what I'm listening to as clearly as if I was using speakers (sound doesn't leave the room like it does with speakers though).
the KOSS cans block ALL noise though and sound excellent in games, they do not sound like 30 dollar cans at all.

When I was researching my build, I was talking to some of my friends who play in gaming touraments around the world and in releation to headphones, the PC 350 was used a lot by players.
But with everything, always try to get reviews on the item from different sources.

Zalman Zm-Mic1 (http://www.xoxide.com/zmmic1.html)
Clip it onto a nub on the headphones and apply a +20 dB boost. Then you'll be going great. A few inches of scotch tape wrapped around a cord does great too. I have it attached to my Koss PortaPros.

Grado sr 80 + standalone mic.
no offense, but thats a terrible idea.
Narrow soundtstage, weak bass, treble heavy.
