I'm beginning to tire of the standard Windows XP UI...any good mods out there that won't kill system performance (like rocketdock), but still add something nice?
Use some nice theme.
Windows Classic FTW!

Do you want to replace the entire UI look and feel or just add some snazziness w/o altering the default UI?

Okay there are a few I can think of that may be suitable, I can't remember though if some of them are pay software or not but they are all resource light.
CursorXP
Windowblinds
Avedesk
Circledock
Rainlender
Alienguise
Windows 7 taskbar iconizer
Vista Start menu

Is this better than Vista Transformation Pack 9?

just patch your uxtheme.dll then download themes and use them... very easy with some googling... or you can use a program called stylebuilder to make your own visual style...

WindowBlinds doesnt use TOO many resources and can look very nice.

I use Royale Remixed theme for my XP pro. I love the zune skin with the updated UI sounds, very small resource footprint as well. Just google royale remixed and I'm sure you can figure out how to install it.

Windowblinds 4.5 uses under 1mb off system memory, Alienguise which is a custom Windowblinds made for Alienware uses roughly the same as well.
Alienguise is a nice lazy way to get some decent eye candy.

Wow, I tried Vista transformation pack but it screwed up my system because I'm on x64... It couldn't uninstall completely, and it looks like my icon spacing is messed up...
I'll try some of these suggestions now -.-"
Okay, it appears my taskbar is still screwed up even though I'm still the standard XP theme... any way to fix this? It's a bit too wide vertically and the icons are distorted because of this.

you will probably need to pull the theme files from another machine that hasn't had issues... they are found in c:\windows\resources. just copy those from another machine to yours and re-apply your theme in display properties

I fixed my Themes with sfc /scannow...
Anyone confirm any of these mods work with x64?
