Vista home pre wont update

I just reinstalled vista on my computer, wiping the drive clean and now im trying to update and change my cd key and nothing works. Also when i start IE it stops at detecting proxy settings so im confused. :confused: can anyone point me in the right direction

UPDATE
it finally accepted my cd key, so that is fine now but now i am still waiting on updates. i am going to run it all night to see if there are any changes

Is your system clock set to the right time and date?

Yeah check your clock and how many times have you used that key I have used mine four times now and it auto activates it each time

sometimes it happens on freshinstall....but esp after doing a repair .. thier is a batch file on the net you need to run & will fix the problem if thats it

just copy it into notepad put it in a folder name it repair (or something you like with) .bat (behind it) or just put it in manulay (cmd window)

first timefound it it said for xp but have used it on vista a few times too

thanks man that worked but it freezes up explorer so for instructions for anyone using vista home premum 64bit:
first run windows update
second run the batch file that u created from above ^^^
after it receves the updates restart explorer using task manager and then restart windows update and run the updates
