Hey guys, I'm not sure if anyone would know anything about what I would like to do, but I'll ask anyways!

I plan on purchasing a Razer Copperhead mouse and doing a little lighting mod on it. Basically, what I plan on doing is installing an RGB lighting system inside. Kind of like what this guy did: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=UufFRRQs1P0. Except that I just want to install the lights in the mouse, and not have the colour controlled by mouseclicks - I plan on having an external RGB controller. What I would like to do is ONLY to get the three different colours inside the mouse (red, green, and blue)

I have read up about the internals of the mouse and found that there is some kind of light strip that runs around the perimeter of the mouse. When you buy the mouse, the strip comes either as blue, or red, or green. You can see it here coming off of the small green chip in the center:

Does anyone know anything about this part of the mouse? Specifically, what is the power rating for this lighting strip? How many amps or volts does it use? I know that I will have my system controlled and powered externally (I've got a neat method for running the necessary wires into the mouse next to the USB cable) so I was hoping that after I purchased my mouse, maybe I could get my hands the other two colour strips to have all three versions (red, blue, and green) and then install the other 2 colours into the mouse to have all 3 colours total.

It turns out that I can't really find anywhere to purchase these light strips separately though (apart from buying the red mouse and green mouse:(), so then I was thinking of just regular RGB ribbon leds maybe around the perimeter of the mouse?

I don't know, this is where any suggestions would be helpful here. Would you know how the guy in that youtube video (link above) got all three colours in his mouse?

Okay, thanks for the help guys! If you don't undertstand something that I'm saying, please ask! Thanks!

Mike

Hey Mike.. Intresting Idea you got there.

I modified teh light in the Lachesis to match the theme of my case mod (change from blooo.. to green). Nothing really to complicated. I just bought clear LED from moddersmart, and then soldered it on.

As for color strips.. ihave no idea what you are refeering to. Are you talking about the "Side" lights on the copperhead? All that is is a acrlyic ring. That green PCB probably holds a 3mm LED that provides the color. I am sure that rings just pops right off.

The idea of having 3 colors is pretty interesting.. either way.. great luck on your project :)

Oh, the colour strips/ring (well, I actually don't know the true name of it) but it is that white cylinder thing in the center of the mouse with the two clear plastic tubes coming off of it. I've outlined it in this pic:

 OH!!! Okay, so if that is just an acryllic ring that acts as a light diffuser, then I could just swap out the LED that is housed in the white centre part maybe? Hmmm, definately something to look into. Okay, because from what I was reading, some guy said that the glowy ring was made up of some kind of chemical that, when electrically stimulated, becomes activated and emits light (in this case, depending on the colour you buy, it can be blue, red, or green). That's why I thought that I might need to get three separate rings, because they would each be 'activated' by their own electrical level and produce a different wavelength of colour for the R, G, B. Alright, but then if it is just an LED in that central white housing and those are just acryllic tubes to diffuse the light around the mouse, this might just work perfectly!! I could just swap that blue LED with an RGB LED and that's all that 'should' be needed!

Okay, well hopefully that's the case! Thanks for the info!
