Hi and welcome,

I have a question about power save setting for monitors. I have two, one main monitor and lcd tv which I'm using for movies only.
When I watch a film on a tv I'd like my monitor to be off but to be able to switch it on with a mouse from sofa. I don't want to switch the monitor1 off manually coz sometimes I need to use PC whilst watching film on a tv screen.

Is there anything that could put the main monitor to power save mode and leave the TV on?

(vista x64)

Thanks in advance.

No, not without turning the main display off. Windows doesn't allow for seperate power profiles for each display, unfortuantely. It would be nice to have different screen-savers on eahc monitor even...but such is not currently possible.

I wonder if a prog like Ultramon does it - I dont have it installed atm cause I havent got multi-mon action happening :(

Thanks for reply, but I tried ultra mon or similar and i tdoes a great job splitting tasks etc between monitors, but it doesn't turn monitors off separately.

Thanks anyway.

As an alternative, use ultramon to run a blank screen saver on only one of your monitors (if it allows that)

Unfortunately, the way Windows handles Screen Savers and input devices, it does not differentiate which monitor your pointer is on... it simply knows you moved it, so it shuts off the screen saver.

I do not know of any software that does what you are hoping for. I think your best bet is to manually turn on/off the monitor(s) you will need at the time.

... Although, if I remember correctly, nTune had something to allow you to set up a second monitor as an overlay-only display, which is to say when you play a movie in any media player software that uses DirectDraw overlays, it plays full-screen on that second display, and otherwise that display is off. Sure, it is only half of the solution you are looking for, but it is a start, and something to check out if you have an NVidia video card.
