View Full Version : GTX280 volt mod through BIOS?

Can the voltage on the GTX280 be increased through a modded BIOS flash? I read it can be increased with nibitor, but I downloaded the latest version (4.7), and it does not let me set the "extra" voltage to anything higher than it is at by default, and the "extend voltage range" check box is grayed out for me.

I'd like to increase the voltage to, say, 1.36v. It is under water, of course. I am not willing to do a hard mod. Is it possible to do it through the bios?

Not possible.
Well, atleast without the source code of the BIOS. Or reverse-engineering eVGA Voltage Tuner.

JUst wait for the release of the eVGA voltage tuner since you have a eVGA card

^^^Your SpiTweaker link is broken

As for the mod, sounds like its possible through Rivatuner, just see the EVGA Voltage tuner thread as it's pretty much in the open there.

Look at page 5 specifically: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=215350

There is a tool coming out for this shortly. I wouldn't go putting voltage to these cards until you know what safe ranges they can withstand. I also read some of that on that cmd line interface, and unless you have some C++ background it's not gonna be fun. I'd seriously wait on the application to do this properly. You have an EVGA card that's under warranty. I'd keep it under warranty. That's one of the bonuses with an EVGA card. We don't have to void our warranty to OC.

I have messed with Advanced (Nibitor) tools and done BIOS flashing before, and did 13 different mods to my old 6800 back when I was benching heavy years ago. I wouldn't go near a cmd line interface with these new cards. There is just no need to. The only way I'd even consider it would be if i was sitting there justa few points shy of a World Record, and even then I'd have to think about whether it was worth it or not.

Here's how you do it through rivatuner (http://www.ocxtreme.org/forumenus/showthread.php?t=4427).

Tried it out with my GTX 280 SC, more volts didn't help me in the end at all. Once you reach you max core/shaders on air its all abou keeping temps down if you push higher. Specifically once you pump 1.22V or high temps need to be under 60C to maintain stability.

Nvidias OVP will prevent you from setting vcore to 1.36, 1.3V is the max but since your card is WC you'll see a difference even with a 0.01V bump.
