Hi there,

I have a perfectly well running PC.
Now I would like to get myself a new setup with a new X58 motherboard, new CPU and RAM.

What's the easiest way to migrate from my 680i mobo and e8500 to this new setup WITHOUT having to re-install the OS.

Vista is running fine now, all software the way I want it etc.
I hate to re-install, enter dozens of software keys etc.

There must be a way that I can plug my hard drives and let VIsta find the new hardware somehow.

Any suggestions?

Search MS Knowledge Base, they have a method described there. Sorry don't have the url ...

You need to get setup. Get Vlite and use your burner to setup a preconfigured Slipsteam of Vista set for "unattended install". That will ease your pain. :)

The reason I suggested that is becasue it's always better to do clean installs with new computers. Your gonna have to install drivers anyway, so you might as well make sure you have a clean install there with no bits or pieces of old drivers, or even worse, old drivers hanging out on the drive.

Clean isntalls are fresh and snappy too. If you get setup right beforehand, it makes it alot easier, then you can just move your files over and be done. I use a "Tornado" for that. That's another neat little device that can make life easier. :)
