Hi,
Was there ever a working pencil vdroop mod for the old Abit IC7 max3 motherboard?
Since there are pencil vdroop mods for virtually every motherboard released since those days, there has to be something you can pencil on this board...

Did anyone ever find which resistor to pencil? The only mod that seems to be available was a soldering mod for legs on an IC (shown on ocforums). And you can't pencil that

Were pencil mods simply not used much back then, or did no one attempt to find one for this board?

Maybe some bored person with spare hardware could attempt to find a penciling point...

I dont actually specifically remember any pencil mods - there were mods, lots of them :D but not so sure about pencil ones...

if u go here:

http://www.ocforums.com/

I remember there was a fellow on that forum who did butt-loads of voltage related mods to hs ic7max3 (I have this mobo too btw  ) just use search function, type in ic7 max3 mod or something, shouldnt be too hard to find :yepp:
iirc, his mods were more RE: mosfets etc, including replacing caps etc :)

:toast:

The best mod for this was the VTT mod - it allows automatic adjustment of the DRam termination voltages based on Bios settings, and you simply had to do this to get the best performance from your memory at 1:1, which was the best way to overclock on this board.

Search the Abit forums (if they're still around) for the circuit diagram.

I remember that VTT mod back when I used to read the abit forums, but I can't even get to a high enough FSB to make it worth doing with this CPU...now if I were trying to run a 2.4C at 3.6 (+1200 mhz) instead of trying to overclock a stubborn 3.4EE by about 300 mhz, then that might be looking into...

But the vdroop on this thing is horrible, and I have zero soldering skills...(well I can soldier wires to potentiometers...maybe someday i'll figure out how to do a solder mod, after blowing up some spare parts first...

Anyway I'm quite sure a pencil vdroop mod _exists_ for this board, just no one has bothered to find the proper resistors to pencil down....
