So, I'm looking to get a new set of speakers and to upgrade to a new sound card. I've tried to do a bit of research on things beforehand, so I don't waste anyone's time. I'm interested primarily in sound quality for music and movies, as the only games I play right now are GW and WoW. What I'm considering:

X-fi Titanium pro (the $150 version)
Auzuntech Prelude
Xonar series, though I'm not sure which one.

It seems like all are solid enough cards, and my system is pretty run of the mill, so I shouldn't have to futz with the drivers too much. My concern is primarily the quality of MP3s, AC3, and any type of your run-of-the-mill DVD audio (no blueray on my computer). What I've read is that the Titanium doesn't do as well with the MP3's, but works better for gaming. Prelude and Xonar each seem to have their strengths, and I'm not sure what to make of them honestly.

Speakers I'm considering:

Creative T6100 Inspire set (5.1)
Logitech X-540 (also 5.1)

I'm not on an unlimited budget, so I'm not looking to buy $2K speakers as nice as that may be, but I'm looking for speakers that are better in the mids/highs and less concerned with bass. I listen to anything from classical to metal, and that is why I'm leaning towards the Inspire speakers since ones that my friends have had really captured the highs well even if on occasion the bass is a tad muddy.

Any advice is more than welcome, and thanks in advance :)

I suggest the Prelude or one of the higher end Xonars. If you have the cash go with a receiver and speaker system meant for home theater. For the price it is your best bet by far..
Look at Shoponkyo.com they have full system for $299 and that includes a receiver, speakers and subwoofer. There is also higher end system for good prices also.
There is also other companies that have Home theater systemn for similar prices. Just look around. I htink most around here will tell you to avoid the PC speakers if you can...
