My first question is... if I own a movie *holds it up* and I have a new laptop with vista home premium and a bunch of Acer media software *holds that up too*, is there a way to put the movie on the disk in my left hand into the computer in my right hand so I don't need the disc to watch the movie anymore? I'm notorious for breaking CD's. :para: So umm... this would help me out a lot.... If I go on a trip or I'm not home, but I want to watch a movie, I don't want to have to bring a bunch of breakable disks with me that I'll probably crack or lose.
Yeah yeah... I know, no one likes vista... this lappy is just for basic media usage, internet, and word processing... not much else.

Pffft... its no different than mp3 files... if you bought it, its your right to put it on your hard drive. Sharing it or trading it however... that's a different story. Its all about money. If movie company execs, producers, and actors can afford private jets... then they're making plenty of money and they don't need anymore. If you ask me... they make WAY too much and half of it should go to cherity.

OKAY! Next question! yay!
I've seen those vista commercials that talk about how you can watch TV with Vista and use it as a DVR. *points behind me* I have a DirectTV tuner there, and my laptop is right here... not there... here.... no over here... THERE!
How do I use the two together and watch TV on my laptop, and use it as a DVR? I've never done ANYTHING like this, hell I've never even been very good at burning disks. I've never even used a DVR. How exactly does this work and how do I do it? Anyone know?

Like zanzabar said, you'll need some sort of capture card and/or tuner for your laptop for that to work (the way they're advertising it anyway).
DirecTV has their own app that will allow you to stream from the DVR box to your laptop, but you'll need to have their Plus HD DVR box. See here (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4920044). The other alternative is to get a Slingbox or get/build a similar appliance.

Yes you need to buy a card I do it also. Also DVDshrink is a good program that is what I use if I am ripping from DVD.

Guys has DVD Shrink been updated? Last I knew, the last update was years ago.
Better to go with AnyDVD running in the tray, and use 1ClickDVDCopy to rip.
