Hello All,

I was wondering if it was possible to get an SP1 disk of vista 64 Ultimate without having to buy it all over again?

I have the 64bit version of Vista Ultimate and I am going to be rebuilding my system and one of the most argrivating parts is having to install all of the updates, then install SP1, followed by more updates.

Is there a way to get a Vista 64bit Ultimate with SP1 from microsoft since I already purchased the OS?

This will literally save me HOURS on my reinstall.

Thanks for your help!

-Jason

You should be able to get a SP1 disk from M$, paying like $13.50 for the shipping. ANY SP1 disk will work.

they may send you a disk with just SP1 but they wont send you a disk with a new OS with SP1 on it.

Phil, you do not use the proper channels, it seems. I have already replaced my Vista disk, paid $13.50, for shipping to canada.

Also try this page, as it will allow repalcement media for some keys.

Replacement OEM or system builder software media

In most cases, you should contact the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) or the system builder directly to replace Microsoft software that was distributed with your computer. However, an exception is made for operating system service pack media*, for which you can contact us directly.

For computer manufacturer contact information, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=oemphone (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=oemphone)

If the product was distributed by an OEM or by a system builder, the product ID will contain the letters "OEM." Visit the following Microsoft Web site, select the appropriate product family, and then follow the steps to locate the product ID:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=notsureoem (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=notsureoem)

For OEM software, the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) lists the computer manufacturer's name under the software version name. For more information about the COA, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/faq.mspx#1 (http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/faq.mspx#1)

If you have system builder software, the COA lists "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" under the software version name.
*Note Service pack media includes only what is associated with the service pack itself.

Thanks for the links. It still isn't entirely clear to me if the replacement disk will have the install and SP1.

Yes, all media shipping from M$ "direct" is currently SP1. You have the option of getting just hte update on disk, or pay a bit more for a full set of replacement media.

If you have retail 32-bit windows, your key works for 64-bit, and you are entitled to use 64-bit, but no 64-bit disks are in the retail package. You can use the links provided above(the first one) in order to get the 64-bit "retail" disks.

Cool, thanks! I will order the 64bit when I get home this evening. This will save me a lot of time for my install.

You can integrate the SP1 update into a disk you burn yourself. There are many guides out there.

I recently installed XP onto a friends machine although he foolishly forgot to give me his disc which contains SP2; he put the lic-sticker on the case. I had to call into MS's customer service to get the OS activated. Being that I used an old basic XP installation disc without sp1 and wanted to register the machine with his License which was associated with an installation disc that contained sp2 the Customer Service Rep had to reissue an entirely new lic after confirming things such as product number on the disc used, the license for the disc used, and the lic for the intended installation. He assured me the intended lic would remain valid should I ever need to reinstall it even though I was given a newly generated License # for the installation - Licenses are associated with the Batch number on the discs for installation.

Summary: MS gave me an additional lic when I was able to provide them with enough info on the disc's and licenses for installing the OS from a different "batch".

I hope this made sense. ;)
