Yep, this will definitely belong to the "etc." section:D

Pardon the cliché project name, but it was the first that came in to my mind considering this little project will be 100% WCG cruncher. It has absolutely no other purpose to exist. And it's my first linux build too. And oh, did I mention it will be constructed inside a drawer, right below my main rig?

The hardware:
MSI MS-9105RL (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/MS9105RL.htm)
2x Intel Pentium III 1 GHz
1 Gb DDR 266 MHz
Nvidia GeForce 2 GTS
? HDD

The target:

As I'm using quite old and low-end hardware, it doesn't really need too much cooling and in fact I'd like to keep the noise level as low as possible with this one. So my first mod in to-do-list was to silence the GPU.

Stock cooler removed, you can imagine how nasty sound that little (and old!) fan made. Well not anymore;)

GeForce got naked. Old paste came off nicely.

New look came out sweet:up: Totally passive, but it doesn't matter as it'll never have to run anything 3D.

Finally a little size comparison. I'm sure that new heatsink will handle the job just as fine as the stock one.

More pics and updates will come soon, so stay tuned folks!

WCG with this?
its worth it?

it does really low results..

i thinking about to do the same thing with P3 on 1.0GHZ too i think.
but i go off from this idea because its really wick and doing really low results on WCG.

I personally think that every score on WCG matters. If you only want to crunch with high-end systems, then you've clearly missed the whole point of distributed computing. I currently have 3 rigs crunching, and as I stated, this is my first computer build only for cruching :)

Parts cost next to nothing and I like doing little projects like this, so I figured who not?

EDIT: Small update right away.

I threw hardware together on my old testbench/mobotray.

I'm going to change one of those cpu coolers to get two identical heatsinks, the dissassemble the stock fans from them and attach one slow 120mm fan on them. Bigger fan + small rpm = lower noise. What do you guys think about this plan?

The 120 mm fan will do a sterling job on these processors due to their low TDP.

wel that 120mm fan is a good idea
are you gonna leave the drawer always open of are you gonna cut it up a litle??

Yep, the back panel will be cutted. I've done some test fittings already and I'll post some more pics and plans tomorrow.

There sure isn't too much space to work with and currently I'm trying to figure out what's the best spot for the HDD.
