So im building a new comp ive got all the parts as listed below:

asus p6t
i7 920
gskill nq 1600 6gb
antec 900
1000w power supply (forget the brand right now as its 2am)
hard drive undecided but no biggy

Now all i need is a card as im waiting on windows vista to come in, ive read that gtx 295 will be released jan 8th at some show, but does that mean its available to the customer at that date or will it take a month or so for shipping to stores?

I can wait till jan 20th or so for this card to come to australia, but if it takes much longer I wont be able to handle having all the parts bar a video card and ill just buy a 4870x2 and have it wced and oc it as much as i can.

So if you know or have a good idea when itll be available to buy id appreciate the info.

why not wait a month, if the 295 isnt out, which i doubt it will be, then get an EVGA GTX280 and hope that a GTX295 comes out within 3 months..

If the 295's is rated at 289W TDP...

and our current 280's were rated at 236W Peak Power...

The 295 will be looking for about 53w's more than a 280, or about 4.4 amps @ 12v's.

We currently believe that a 17amp rail is required to run a 280, My best guess is a 295 takes every bit of a 22A video card rail to run properly.

OC'ed may want even more?

Make sure your video card rails have 22 amps or more. My Thermaltake ToughPower 1000W has 36 amps on it's V3 and V4 rails.

Wait until the 295 is released, prices of the 4870x2 should go down

According to early benchmarks the 295 surpassed the 4870x2 by quit a bit. It looks like a 280x2. Damn near double the 280 performance. It beats the 4870x2 in all benchmarks and in some, it demolishes it.
