I'm using Windows XP, and in the 'Advanced' window of 'Sounds and Audio Devices Properties' there is a slider for 'Hardware Acceleration'. I have a couple of games that have serious sound issues UNLESS I have this slider set to 'Basic'.
I'm currently using the Auzentech/HDA Xplosion 7.1, and soon I intend to replace it with the ASUS Xonar Essence. Neither of those cards support any kind of Hardware Accelerated audio, right?
So my question is: Can I leave the slider at 'Basic' permanently? Will there be any consequences at all, in ANY games despite the fact that I don't use a Hardware Accelerated sound card?
