As per title, what true quad core CPU model is going to reach the big 7G first? Will it be an Intel CPU or will it me an AMD cpu. Place your bets please
:p:

Please stay on topic, any off topic posts will be reported straight to the moderators.............oh man couldnt even spell nehelam right, oh dear

Nehalem gonna need a better BIOS to the X58 I think.
Denab is already clouse too :P

Well I really hope to see this race hot up soon, with Deneb just round the corner and new bioses for mobos in production, this may get interesting

Is that even needed?
WR right now for I7 is 5.67ghz, thats not even close to 7Ghz. As much as I love I7 CPU's I just don't see it happening.
Even Wolfdale hasn't reached 7Ghz yet.

Its FAKE!Has this been confirmed elsewhere?
It didnt take long for this thread to be moved to the least viewed part of Xtreme Systems forums.
Who ever moved this, at least move it to the general hardware section

I say Deneb gonna get there first. I mean the chip aint been even launched yet and it still gets 600-700 MHz more than Nehalem which has been in the hands of enthusiasts for some time.
Just check the max OC's for the 2 chips here: http://valid.canardpc.com/records.php

Ain't no bloomfield getting to 7Ghz.. I'd like to see some 6Ghz action though, and maybe some stable 5Ghz (can't be done with current stepping either unless you get a certain chip directly from Francois and use a 2 stager 24/7  )
Dunno about Deneb, we'll have to wait and see.

With what i'v seen, i'd say that AMD's Deneb would before i7.
Sod 7GHz, the next true milestone is 10GHz, an that aint coming for a loooooooooooooong time. Probably not even in the 1366 \ AM3 era. Likely not the generation after that either, but perhaps the generation after that.

maybe if they get rid of Francois and get a proper engineer they could..... lol j/k
well there is AMD as well
with some more revisions of CPUs i dont see why they couldnt improve in the next year or so
current chips no chance in hell
future ones.....maybe :D

Future maybe yes and be nice to that Frenchman.
He's a decent guy and what people don't get is he's a hardware junky just like you and me.. Just happens to have a PHD behind his name and a dream job..
Looking forward to meeting him at CES next week.

I voted i7 for the reason that if Deneb can't immediately do 7GHz, maybe the next i7 stepping will be able to. It's a pipe dream based more on hopeful fantasy than reality that I wouldn't bet on but I thought I'd offer the logic behind my vote.

Deneb.
They've already reached >6GHz in in-house benches so once more of those liquid nitrogen-o-holics get their paws on 'em there will be better results.
It's just a matter of statistics now.
Where's that promised 6GHz i7?

I remember how Wolfdale had lots of trouble reaching the same speed as the average QX9650 could reach. Then later it became an overclocking god.

I think Deneb has a chance. I7, not a chance. The Deneb has already managed over 6.

Agree, my bet is on Deneb as well, I'll just add one condition, mainboards specifically tuned for deneb oc's need to show up first.
I bet the 6ghz+ runs where on ln2 as well, so cooling wont improve, but no k8 / k10 board so far had to be tweaked properly for such high clocks as k8 / k10 was cold bugged, so I think new boards should help.
Would be fun to bench I7 at 6ghz+ vs. deneb at 7ghz:p:

Question: Does it matter?
Won't an i7 @ 5ghz still outperform a P2 @ 7ghz?
I look forward to finding out!

As a lesser example, look at the B3 vs G0 steppings of the Q6600. Sometimes a new stepping can make a big difference.
Again, not saying that will be the case but if Intel has a shot at winning the race I think that's where it'll be.

HIGHLY doubt that, unless of course the chip was unstable at that speed (and seriously I doubt any chip could be fully stable at that speed)
