Hello,
I just bought a Samsung T240HD 2 days ago, and i have a few questions about it.
I was up until now using a 21" CRT, while @ work we have 21" NECs so i was using only high quality screens, and now i'm having some problems getting used to this monitor.
Its not that i don't like it, i love the amount of space, the colors are great...
I can't describe the feeling exactly but its like i'm watching on my old CRT @ 60Hz, also sometimes i have a bit of a trouble focusing at some points on the screen.
Is it just that i have to get used to the screen? (because i was a constant CRT user for the last 10 years)
Also if there are any owners of this monitor is there any advantage of hooking it up via HDMI?
Oh well,
Tom,

i would use dvi or hdmi for sure, vga works but i seem to get a much clearer display image (for office work) via the straight digital outputs of dvi/hdmi

I already have it hooked up to DVI, but i was wondering if there are any advantages of hooking it up via HDMI??
Also i'm kind of getting used to the screen a bit, and the "weird feeling" is not that bad as it was :) I can't belive that getting used to LCD is such a strain on the eyes... who knows.

no advantage to HDMI unless you need HDCP support (off the top of my head I don't remember if the 240HD does HDCP over DVI)

oh... well i have no issues with that because i don't do anything with HDCP :D
The quality of picture is basically the same right?
Also has anyone noticed a kind of "eye strain" when moving from CRT to LCD's? i'm asking because i'm curious if its just my bad eyes or is it the same for everyone

the quality of the picture is the same, they are both digital.
for me there is much less eye strain on an lcd.

I'm getting used to it a bit... i think the problem is the resolution. I had problems reading at first...
Also i just noticed a small teal pixel that is always on but only when the picture is black. If i test the screen with any other color (red, blue, green, orange, white, grey) the teal pixel doesn't show up... and since pixel size is so small i barely spot it even on a black screen. What's up with that??
I mean i've heard of stuck pixels (and even fixed a few) but still, isn't a stuck pixel supposed to always be stuck?

Text is never going to be crystal clear as it was with the CRT, but with time you'll get used to it.
And yes the resolution is weird, getting to see WS format compared to a 4:3 takes sometime as well. Personally I have minimized the window from both ends when viewing pages on the net so that I can read it w/o having to move my head.
Games are better on the LCD than the CRT IMO and image quality (aside from text that is), I couldn't be happier with my T240, I'm glad I waited this long because not long ago LCD monitors weren't what they are today.
I'm using the DVI as well, got me a MonsterCable ($99.99) 6ft which I got on eBay for $9.99 shipped.
HD content from NBC, ABC, CBS and cable network TV look amazing.

Well we don't have HighDef TV here so i'm stuck with plain Digital TV, but that's better than nothing :)
I guess i have to take a week or so to get my eyes used to this :)
Can you tell me what kind of settings you have your monitor on? brightness, contrast? do you use dynamic contrast, because i set it to "custom" and set it manually...

I much prefer the image quality of text on my LCD's to CRT's. Check to see if "font smoothing" makes a difference to you, else it may just be your particular LCD doesnt sit well with you.

i used to get terrible headaches from CRT's, going to LCD's made them go away but there is still eye strain (especially if you should be wearing glasses). I'd list the specs i use for my monitor but I primarily game on it and it might not be the way to go for you

Well i used to be able to work for 6-12 hours straight on my old CRT, and now i'm having problems after like 15-30minutes. Its like i can't focus correctly on text. Could it be that the monitor is faulty? or maybe it just doesn't sit right with me.
A couple of friends stopped by and we watched a few movies, gamed a bit and they said its all normal to them. And they are LCD users for a few years now.
My settings are: Brightness 60, Contrast 61... i don't know if any other settings are important?
basically like i said, the feeling is exactly the same as when i used to set my CRT to 60Hz. uncomfortable.

I think i have a possibile reason. could it be because of my glasses? I never had any special problems so far (my dioptre is -3.7) so i figured i'd be fine...
But now when i take off my glasses i don't have any problems with the screen (except the fact that i have to stand like 15cm from it to see anything :D )
