I'm looking for a new monitor to replace my Dell 2405FPW. I'm looking for a good 24" or 25.5" that is reasonably priced. Which monitors would you guys recommend?

I did some research and found the following:

1. ASUS VK266H Black 25.5" (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236046)
2. LG W2600H-PF Black 25.5" (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005114)

Any advise and/or other recommendations? Looking to spend in the range of $400, but hopefully no more than around $450.

Thanks.

The lg was on sale through the 24th with a promocode for 70 off.

I get that monitor tomorrow. If you can wait, I'll let you know if i like it.

I personally don't think that your 2405FPW needs replacement. If you're "only" spending 400-450 USD, it's probably not worth the hassle. I know the 2405FPW is a fine monitor for it's price and for its time, a friend of mine has one and I can't find anything horribly wrong about it.

The reason is that I'm planning on giving it to my mom (we returned her old monitor for just over $400) and need a new monitor for myself. Or I can keep the 2405 for myself and get another monitor for my mom. I was just thinking that the 2405FPW is already an old model so there must be something newer and better in the $400-450 price range.

So I read (extensively) about S-PVA, MVA, P-MVA, S-IPS, TN panels, etc. I'm probably going to stick with the PVA/MVA panels since TN panels are 6-bit and the colors are not as great (although the response times are). S-IPS monitors would be ideal but they retail (for 24") at $1,000+.

I did some research and came up with the following 3 PVA models:

1. Dell 2408FPW (http://search.dell.com/searchcom_redirect.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&cs=&k=2408fpw&tdc=1&p=1&rpp=12&cd=1&cat=all&sfp=product&dtype=product&did=320-6272&redp=http%3a%2f%2faccessories.us.dell.com%2fsna%2f products%2fMonitors%2fproductdetail.aspx%3fc%3dus% 26l%3den%26cs%3d19%26sku%3d320-6272&redpe=c1f839c6-a59e-c666-9d2c-43fd9f424adf) - $550 shipped from eBay
2. Samsung 245T (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001246&Tpk=Samsung%20245T) - $670 shipped from Amazon
3. BenQ FP24VW - Currently cannot find it for sale

Any thoughts/suggestions?

both the dell and the samsung have horrible input lag and ghosting, yes, ghosting. i have them both. i hate going to [H] forums now because the white mouse pointer ghosts in that gray background.

I don't know the BenQ

I got the LG today. I'm really impressed considering its a TN panel. Something tells me you wouldn't be disappointed if you did purchase this monitor.

I don't do photoshop, so I can't comment on the color accuracy yet. I need another DVI cable for my old samsung.

I just confirmed that. Looked at a test and found that the Dell 2408FPW and Samsung 245T both have input lag of 64.1 and 52.5 ms, which is much higher than similar PVA panels in that class

For that reason, I did some more searching and came across HP's newest H-IPS panel, which is much cheaper than other IPS panels of the same size.

HP LP2475w (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/382087-382087-64283-72270-444767-3648442.html) - $600 shipped

I personally think TN panels get a bad rap. Considering they are the cheapest models you can get, they tend to have the least input lag and if you calibrate them correctly the colors are plenty accurate when viewed from straight on. Getting off angle is when colors get unacceptable but why would you be doing something important and not sitting in front of the monitor? If you make a living with photo editing and stuff than yea I could see it being something to consider. To be completely honest though I love everything about my Samsung 245BW. I would have gotten the BenQ G2400WD or V2400W but didn't want to wait for shipping or dead pixel warranties and got a real good deal on the Samsung. For the money I really don't think some of those other monitors will actually be as good as a good TN.

Thanks for all the help! I think I'm going with this HP that uses an LG.Display panel: HP LP2475W (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF05a/382087-382087-64283-72270-444767-3648442.html)

Can't pass up an excellent H-IPS panel for $600

To be honest the new Samsung T260 (TN) looks a lot better than the old one which was PVA. Mind you that was a 3 year old model (Dell 2405). Strange the new Samsung lists 16.7mil colors everywhere I look, I thought TN was 16.2? Was TN improved upon?

Dan7777, I bought the LG 25.5" that was on newegg. I'm very happy with the colors, even the viewing angles. Its great for FPS from my experience. Not sure if you wanna pay $430 for a TN though. I got it for $360, but I am incredibly happy with it.
