Please excuse my n00bness in this topic but this is my first chiller and to be honest I have no clue on this phasechange thing.....

My compressor is a Tecumseh AEA4440YXA, all I know about it is that its 1/3 hp and 4000BTUs...... refrigerant used right now is R134a......

I can get my water to around -23c unloaded, during load it stays at around -15c, thats cooling both cpu and gpu.....

My question are,
-What's the best refrigerant can I use with this compressor?
-Do I need to change anything to use say R22 or R404a?
-If I use the above refrigerant will it stress the compressor enough that it might break down?
-What kind of improvement would I get temp wise if I change my refrigerant?
-It has a adjustable temp control ( is that thermostat?) should I take it out to have it set at full blast all the time?

Thanks guys.....

This is the compressor, it has a built in 8gal reseviour

r22 r404 those 2 are basic ones, im sure the other members would say r404, its seems to be mostly used..

r22 is the basic r134a upgrade, r404 cost more but performs a bit better..

Sure someone can explain better then i can

I want to use r404a but im not sure if I can use it with this compressor..... is it just a matter of filling it with it or do I have to modify anything?

btw sorry for this off topic question but... does R134a and R22 has the same boiling point tempreture?...how did mach2 manage to hit -40 to-50c unloaded with R134a??

depends on what oil it has in it at the moment... I personally don't know that compressor so couldn't say.... bowman or gary or berkut may be able to provide moreinfo, but you'll have to be patient for them to post as they're busy guys...

Looking at it's specs the compressor itself will be able to handle 404a without a prob, but will possibly need the cap tube extending to be suitable with the rest of the system's current setup.... can't say fer 100% definite.

If you want to get any decent temps out of it, I suggest you go with a high(er) pressure refrigerant like 404A, yes.
