'would you do this or that'
yes, no? :D
Maybe edit the poll and make it something like 'Yes, Dell' or 'No, homebuilt' because right now it's a little ambiguous..

the beauty of ESX server is that it doesnt take a powerhouse.
i guess a good question to ask would be, what do you plan on doing with it? why type of VMs do you plan on running? how many are 24/7? etc.
my ESX server is a gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H mobo (warning, there is no support in ESX for the onboard sata for your datastore)
e6300
2x1gb gskill (it didnt like to boot into the kernel with 2x2)
4x36gb 10k seagate cheetah on an Adaptec 39320
with a gig connection to my NAS
its a simple box, and i will be upgrading soon im sure, but for now, its hosting:
debian 4 webserver
debian 4 backup server
freenas
and 2 test servers (both linux based)
4 of the 5 vms runs 24x7 and the entire setup would likely benefit from quad core with 8+gb ram if i needed more beef, but at the moment i am content as is

I have a poweredge T105 with 4gb ram and 2TB hard disk space but i know it ESX won't run on it
I'm thinking about selling it and adding some more money to build one but i'm not sure if to just buy a rack server from Dell
Guys please help out here
oh and mods please change the poll
thanks
