Question -- I just got a 28'' widescreen monitor for xmas. How do I use the widescreen resolutions in (like 1680x1050 or 1920x1080) in games like Crysis? When I go into Crysis, it still has only 1600x1200 as the max resolution in-game. Is there a way to force a wide-screen resolution? (or should I leave it on 1600x1200?
Thanks!

Strange. Are you using DVI to connect the monitor to the PC? Have you tried updating your video card drivers since you got your new monitor? Widescreen resolutions are definitely supported in Crysis, I played at 1680x1050.

Change the aspect ratio from 3:4 to 16:9 or whatever. That's for steam games I know.

No, unfortunately, it doesn't have DVI -- it has HDMI though, which of course my x-fire cards don't have. So I'm stuck using VGA until I can get a card that uses HDMI as well.

I also have not restarted my PC since hooking the monitor up, so maybe it'll "re-detect" after a restart?

You might as well try it.

I know 1680x1050 is supported on VGA, but I have heard you need DVI for very high resolutions? I'm not sure on all of this as the highest resolution monitor I run is 1680x1050.

a restart may help.
if not then it may be a resriction of your monitor, you may need to use a dvi-hdmi adapter. you get them here, no doubt other stockists too.

failing all that you can attempt custom resolutions with rivatuner or nvidia driver panel but I'd use that as a last resort...your monitor should show you the widescreen resolutions, and crysis most definately supports them.

Thanks guys, the re-start fixed the issue. Just got done playing Crysis a bit in 1920x1200 -- what a beautiful resolution. I'm sure it would look even sharper in HDMI. I may need to pick up an HDMI cable with HDMI-->DVI adapter. Thanks so much. :)

16:9 is HDTV resolutions. He'll want to change it to 16:10 aspect ratio, which is for wide-screen monitors.

HDMI and DVI are both digital connections and identical in terms of picture quality. HDMI only has the added benefit of being able to carry audio through the cable. As an example of their relationship, my 24" LG monitor does not have a DVI input and instead has an HDMI input, so I use the DVI-to-HDMI cable it came with to connect to my video card.
