is there any way to undervolt the atom CPU to use even lower vcore? i tried using RMclock and other utilities too, but they don't support the atom processor.

I have the same question after picking up a netbook. I've always been undervolting Pentium M's by 40-50% to great benefit.

trying to save battery life by undervolting, but there seems to be no way of doing that yet

Not really because of stupid speedstep. Crystal CPU works but only in AC mode and speedstep disabled.
