looks good, around 10% performance improvement

Here's the recap table

Why would that be no trust ?

the beta is alot faster with USB and NAS, and they fixed some of the audio stack and netstack interfering with each other with an openAL apu

don't you hate when reviews do a head to head comparison and post one big sweeping remark that completely ignores standard deviation?

From a personal point of view ... SP2 feels smoother, more complete. I have been using it since it was available from MS.
SATA to SATA operations is a LOT faster than with SP1. I can extract a 4 GB archive file, convert a DVD ISO image and hash check files while downloading them through FTP all at the same time,
on the same drive, much better now than I could with SP1. It's just so much faster.

Haha, very true!
I really can't see any 10% improvment in those numbers...

windows 7 beta is faster than vista period :)

windows 7 beta is faster than vista period :)
I see.
And how do you measure that exactly?
Is it based on that Windows Vista is a longer name than Windows 7, and takes longer to type?
..or do you have any other scientific method of measuring?
I don't know what it is, but MS surely have managed to appeal to something in the human mind with the UI of Vista and 7. PPL just seems to know things, without even knowing anything. Must be something emotional of sorts....or need for. Vista/7 "defenders" seems to get so emotional about it, and logical reasoning simply doesn't bite.

Interesting take on the situation Clint, but don't forget the XP "defenders." They're just as bad and in some lingering cases, much worse.

I simply don't buy "feels better". I recently tried Windows 7 and yes, I agree it "feels" better than Vista. But how much of this is just me creaming my jeans over having a pre-release OS with a shiny new color scheme? In benchmarks Windows 7, Vista SP1, and Vista SP2 are all well within margin of error, and like the above results, none of which take an overwhelming majority of benchmarks or exhibit a strong pattern from which we could draw any meaningful conclusion. I don't trust "feels" for the same reason I don't trust in-game benchmarks; what's the standard? Give me a range of synthetic benchmarks with transparent methodology and then we can talk conclusive results. "Feels" + adjective = BS.

It is still beta tough.
So no need to be feeling down about it yet.

how is this ignoring the standard deviation ?

you cannot draw substantiated conclusions from results that are within the bounds of standard deviation.
Especially if they do not exhibit a pattern in their deviation.

We're analog creatures, moved by whim and perception. There's no way that "standard deviation" can supply a universal, meta-opinion that we're all going to bow to. Sorry.

isn't standard deviation , that in most cases both OS are equal, but Sp2 beats SP1 by substantial margin in some cases ?
Wow, it's almost unnoticeable. The change is marginal at most. :(

everything feels just as smooth as before. no complaints. only complaints you will find is from people with 2 gigs of ram ;)

Seriously...the words "substantial" and "whoops" are not appropriate for this at all.

Sorry to burst in here with a request... but can someone send me a .DLL that I deleted?
I am looking for 'user32.dll.mui' that is in the 'C:\Windows\SysWOW64\en-US' directory. I was removing the watermark from the file in Win\Sys32 and in the process, I deleted the file in SysWOW64.
Just trying to find someone who has x64 with SP2 installed... no luck so far...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-Thanks

I deleted the file in SysWOW64.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
slap me if I am outta line, but that DLL should still be in the recycle bin, yes? or did you delete the contents of said bin too?
if so, then cruise over to this spot, it may be your answer...

BTW, I am no expert at this, just found the link with a quick net search, maybe 20 seconds to find...
good luck,

I appreciate the help, however...
1. Of course I thought about the Recycle Bin, but it has been emptied :)
2. The post you linked to has nothing to do with SP2... I am looking for the .DLL from a x64 SP2 install :D
Can nobody send me the file?

I have been having a problem with the installation of CAPICOM KB931906 for weeks now, So I was really pleased that upon installing service pack 2 it also fixed the CAPICOM issue. I do use Microsoft updates & so far Its working great.

is this a system file? the folder looks odd to me, but i'm not much into vista...
however, you should try the little tool sfc (system file checker) which comes with xp and vista.
press win + r and type cmd to open the command prompt window in which you type sfc /scannow to initiate a system file check.

*edit* doh, now i read that someone sent you the file. well, nevermind then :p:
