I'm about to order components for my new build. I'm trying to build a 24/7 gaming / crunching / business workstation - nothing Xtreme, just great bang for the buck OC / gaming performance. I'm keeping many of the parts from the rig in my sig - just the ones below are up for debate. Weigh in with your opinions:
Case - CoolerMaster ATCS 840 Black or ?
MB - eVGA X58 / Asus P6T or ?
CPU - i7 920
HS / Fan - ?
HD - 2nd VR300 for a RAID0 array
PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817702007 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

I love everything about the case - just wish it were about 80% the size. Anything else fit that description? The RAM options are just starters, the OCZ Gold looked like it was very cheap for the specs, and the 4GB kit would be a dirt cheap temporary option (this would disable triple channel I'm guessing). The 2nd VR is to set up a RAID0 array that would provide a relatively fast OS / Storage drive while I wait for SSD to mature and prices to drop. The OS will eventually be on an SSD. I really need suggestions for the HS - not sure what I'm looking at for options / mounting kits. Thanks for your opinion!

IMO it's not much of an upgrade from what you have now. you'd be spending quite a bit of money for very little gain.

I sold my existing MB / Case / CPU / RAM / HS. The actual cost difference won't be that much, just my time to rebuild the old rig and new rig. It's sorta like starting over - thanks for the opinion tho! I'd have stayed put if not for my old PC moving on to a new life.

ahh, i didn't realize you had already sold some stuff.
in that case i would definitely go with the Corsair PSU. and i would personally go with some gskill ram. but from the two listed go with the golds for sure.
hsf i'd still go with the TRUE.
mobo i'd definitely go with the asus. lots of info out there about that board and i'm a huge asus fan.

Im in the same boat but im going with Gigabyte MB.

I'm in the process of building the same system with that case aothough DAYUM it's pricey! It should arrive Monday. I'm using THIS COOLER (http://www.legitreviews.com/article/660/1/), they have a 1366 edition now. Newegg has been OOS but I ordered from Sidewinder Computers and got it fast. TRUE's all seem to have convex bases which need lapping. Screw that.
I also went with the Corsair Dominators 3GB 1600's because they seem to be the best compatibilty-wise...I don't want to have to be fighting compatibility issues when tweaking.
I also prefer modular PSU's so I have the Corsair 620HX and have a VR300 as well although as soon as the OCZ Vertex drives come out, I'm going to run my OS off of it and use the VR for photos, music etc.

I disagree. If the i7 920 is overclocked (and HT enabled) to 3.2GHz it will be faster than the Q9650 clocked at 4GHz. :yepp:

With the Q9650 I would get 72.... at 4 GHz, the Core i7 was 77..... at 3.2GHz. Here it is at 4GHz.

Really? I just assumed X58 supported SLI and therefore they would work. I'll check this out.

I believe that the x58 chipset natively supports 2 way SLI and Crossfire, and it was up to the board manufacturer to support it. I know for a fact that the EVGA x58 supports SLI.
