I got a antec 900 and a coolermaster real power pro 1kw, now im gonna cut some holes in order to hide the cables in the back, but i dont like how the power supply i have has its cables coming from the left(the furthest side away from the side of the case that holds the mother board).

So i want to flip the power supply upside, so thats it cables are right next to the side where the holes will be cut. I'll cut a whole in the base to allow the fan to vent its hot air, my question is whether or not there will be any problems in doing this?

I dont foresee any, but perhaps its bad for the parts in the powersupply, hence why im asking.

I think not only aesthically this will be an improvement, but also eliminating the power supplies hot air ever entering the case.

No problems should happen, a lot of folks that mod their 900s do this to hide the cables. Just make sure your case is elevated enough to let the air vent * recommend getting some new rubber feet for the case*. Also make sure to get a filter and put that where the hole is so it does not get dust inside.

yea many people do this especially in case with bottom mount power supplys. the nzxt tempest even has a bracket so you can mount it anyway. theres no problem in doing it.

This is the normal way of mounting a power supply, with the fan facing down. Because of the bottom mounted psu, the default way to mount it in an antec 900, with the fan facing up, is actually upside down. The antec 900 is one of the few cases that does this, so obviously it would not be bad for the psu to mount it the orientation almost all other cases use.

Yes you can. I have a coolermaster HAF 932 but before I had a no-name case and in that I DID lots of mods to it and one of the thing was the flip the PSU on its SIDE!!!!

It's actually better for the PSU to mount it on the bottom with the fan pulling in cool air of its own, instead of the heat from the rest of the system. Just make sure you have adequate air flow in the top section of the case.

I've had this mounting for 1 1/2 years in my Stacker 810 and the PSU loves it. The fan always stays at low RPM.

i doesnt matter where you mount as long as you have air intake

heck, i've seen some pics of ppl mounting the psu in front!!

It's not just air intake, what matters is how cool your components are running over time. If you can mount a PSU so it gets its own clean air and doesn't have to deal with the system heat, it will have lower temps generally = better performance and longer life.

I'm considering doing the same on my Antec Nine Hundred... the only problem is I don't want it to act as a vacuum for pet hair or dust.

So, until I can find a nice way of having an easily removable filter screen (with a ridgid frame around the edge), that part of the project is on hold.

Any ideas on the above?
