I just ordered this motherboard along with the rest of the things I need for my Core i7 setup. If anyone has this board or can chime in with BIOS tweaks or guides, please post them here.

Here is the info page from Asus:
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=179&l3=815&l4=0&model=2697&modelmenu=1

Here is the download page for this mobo:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

This mobo just came into stock late last night on Zipzoomfly. I was going to buy the Rampage II Extreme but got distracted and wound up waiting before placing my order. I'm glad I waited because I wanted this board more but wasn't sure when it was going to come in stock anywhere. Below will be my system:

Intel Core i7 920 CPU
Asus P6T6 WS Revolution Mobo
Corsair DDR3-1866 3gb Memory Kit
Silverstone 1200W Mdular PSU
HIS 4870x2 Video Card
Asus ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3 Sound Card
2 WD 300gb Velociraptor Hard Drives

Unrelated - Zipzoomfly is giving 4 games away if you buy a Core i7 CPU...I got FarCry2 and Assasin's Creed so their not bad games either...so grab your Core i7s and get some games for free!

It's available at Zipzoomfly...I don't know how long it's going to stay in stock...I'm still waiting for my 1336 socket kit for my TRUE Black and then I can start tweaking away...right now I'm just using the stock HSF...the board is solid though and it was very easy and straight forward in setting up.

I'm not going to be able to give you guys anything until next week...I just sold a bunch of hardware and am in the process of getting some new parts...hopefully a week longer and I should have everything going. Hopefully some other people can give up some OC results with this board before me.

i just got the pci-x brother of this board
a.k.a. ASUS P6T6 WS Proffesional

everything running smoothly so far ~4ghz (i7940)

only problem is that when i use triple channel mushkin ram kits
(1333 & 1600) it only recognizes 4 out of 6 gb installed
all dimms are working fine when used seperately
but when put together
it seems to cause some sort of problem.
note that CPU-Z sees all installed dimms
but both bios info, mem count during post and windows properties
report only 4088mb as usable
(vista 64 Ult.)

weird quirk of the board or poor spd programming?
all i know is that the equivalent Gskill triple kits work flawlessly on the same motherboard

Finally settled on the Silverstone FT-01 BW....should have everything up and running by early next week (prays for no roadblocks). I tested the TRUE on this board outside on the box and cooling was good, but I'm going to go with the new Coolermaster V8 once I put everything in the case.

Ordered my board this morning, it will be here on Monday. I've been wanting this board ever since I first saw it announced as it delivers many things I've been asking for for a long time.

[H]ard|OCP reviewed (http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTYwMiwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==) this board last week and really liked it. However, there are two issues presently. With the BIOS currently shipping with the board, 3-way SLI doesn't work (normal 2-way works fine). However, ASUS is aware of this and already has a BIOS in BETA that fixes the problem. The other issue relates to CPU voltage over-volting. While most boards either over or under volt the CPU voltage to some degree, it’s normally kept to a maximum of .01-.05V. However, in the review, there was a 0.2V over volt on this board and this could be very deadly to the CPU for the unaware user. This will probably be resolved with a BIOS update as well.

Despite these two issues, Kyle and Morry really liked the board and summed up the review by stating "Once ASUS gets a working public BIOS that fixes the 3-Way SLI and vCore overvolting issues fixed, this will undoubtedly be a Gold Award winner with HardOCP."

If anyone needs the beta BIOS that resolves the 3-way SLI issue, I should have a copy of it soon.

Do you think ASUS will be as aggressive with BIOS updates as they are with...say...the P6T D? Also, does this suffer the optical SATA performance issues like the P6T D?

I was having weird reboot issues...I had the system up and running and out of the blue, it would just reboot...I reseated just about everything and it seems to work fine now so i'm hoping it was just a loose copnnection.

I simply bumped the BCLk to 166 from 133 and my system runs fine...no voltage tweaks at all...I'm guessing overclocking on Core i7 will be easier and better than it was on Core 2 Duo/Quad....I still don't understand how these BIOS values I see all work in conjunction with one another yet....but I will try to bump up the BCLk more.

Asus finally released decent overclocking software...Turbo v app works nicely and has a decent amount of options...you can adjust a lot of voltages in it...I still prefer BIOS but for those whop like using OC software, give it a try.

It kind of lame and unusable for serious OC for now as of two major reasons:
1. If you set in BIOS bClk above 200mhz (201 and on) it would show 100Mhz on TurboV and it just doesn't affect the bClk anymore.

2. In most cases, changing parameters like vcore/bClk results in system hang so I prefer to use setFSB and set the vcore and other major stuff in the BIOS.

Nice try Asus, but you got to try harder.

The board looks really nice with all those endless PCI-E connections.

I have the ASUS P6T WS Pro which is almost the exact same board as the P6T6. I cannot use my $140 PCIE x1 Creative X-Fi Ti Fatal1ty sound card with it right now because it slows the board to a crawl. Like 5 minutes boots compared to 20 second boots. I have told ASUS about it...

Supposedly a brand new BIOS update fixes the sound card issues with the P6T6...

Just saw this, sorry. It's a 4 slot difference, you should be able to measure it on any board, take your 1st slot, count down to the fifth slot and measure. As for a crossfire connector being that long, the ones I have will only bridge a 3 slot difference, so slot 1 and 4 max, but I believe there may be longer ones out there.

SirKronan, I am considering buying (though waiting for the d0 cpu's) and that price is really good, but I think I want 12gigs of ram and the ocz 1600 with 777 timings is a bit better then the included ram (and around the same price, but 6gigs for free is quite good so...)

Using XMP profile:
VCore 1.35v
Speedstep Enable
Turbo Enable
Hyperthreading Enable
BCLK 191 Mhz or 190 Mhz (21 x 190/191)
Memory Voltage 1.64v (1.65v defaults to 1.66v)
Memory timings: 8-8-8-24
everything else on Auto

HardOCP was using 12 Gb of Dominator. They should have RTFM (even though Kyle says he did in the video... read the manual!). The manual says 1600 Mhz operates only with 3 sticks of ram.

jkresh
03-20-2009, 09:48 PM
IanY, is the 3 stick limit still in place with the new bios? When the board was released it said it was limited to 12gigs (and I guess 6 at 1600), now asus's page says the board can handle 24 (which is part of the reason I ordered it, while I doubt I would go over 12 anytime soon I can't see buying a board that has half the lmit of every other enthusiast x58 board), so if it can handle 24gigs can it do 12 at 1600 (or if the bclk is at 190 or 200 what memory settings besides around 1600 are available?)

Sure, you can do 12 GB at 1600, as long as you can find 4 GB sticks of DDR3 at 1600 Mhz. As the manual says, 1600 Mhz is supported with just three sticks of DIMM (and it doesn't say that six sticks of DIMM won't work.. just that Asus does not provide guarantees). I believe the mobo takes 24 GB of ram, again as long as you use 4 GB DIMMs x 6 sticks. The "official" X58 spec is 1066 Mhz and the enthusiast spec is 1333 Mhz, but the industry doesn't abide by stock settings, does it?

At 190 Bclk, the bios has ridiculous settings ... I think past 2400 Mhz.. as you know, such ram that runs above 2100 Mhz is exceedingly rare. As always, your mileage may vary. I know I bought only Corsair Dominators at 1600 Mhz, but there are Dominator GTs speced at 2000 Mhz, and overclockable upwards, for a very steep price.

Hey guys, I was thinking about picking up this board and a 3--- Xeon for a workstation. I need some serious speed so I want to OC as best as I can with the chip - which sounds like 4 ghz is a possibility with the new D0 stepping. The only difference for me would be I'd like to plug in some ECC ram (6 sticks of it). I know it will be a tick slower, but will it affect my ability to get to 4ghz?

Thanks,

Nope @ sli. I'm running 2x285's (oc'd) in my rig on this board and she is running smooth. CPU (i920) is at 4ghz (24/7 setting) water cooled. I was able to push her to 4.2ghz but had to shut off htt to achieve that stable. My chip maybe so so cause I need 1.5v vcore to stay stable at 4ghz-4.2ghz. Ran gskill 1600mhz sticks at 1603mhz with 9 9 9 24 timings. Again smooth. Tried the new gskill tridents but having stability issues with it at the ram's stock 2000mhz speed w/ 9 9 9 24 timings. Bios update might fix that. Might try the gskill cas 8 1600mhz ram. U should be straight with ocz ram. Not sure about incompatability with pci-ex.

Anyone tried a D0 i920 on this board yet? Some reason i'm having issues going over 4.3ghz. Really odd. I have chip set on 4.2ghz, vcore @ 1.4v (could set it lower but compared to needing 1.5v on my old C0 i920 to hit over 4ghz i'm not complaining) with HTT on with ram at 1603mhz with 8 8 8 21 timings. Dont get me wrong she runs nice but i'm stumped with the 4.2ghz limit. And of course the sticker on the box detailing the batch number is semi unreadable. It either reads 3901A257, or 30001A257. I never heard of these batches. Anyone have some insights let me know. I'll try working on getting over this 4.3ghz limit. Btw I have tried it with and without HTT enabled, and even cranking up the vcore to 1.5v still no go over 4.3ghz.

I'm thinking of picking this board up,(ASUS P6T7 WS Supercomputer) ill be running I7 975, 2Xgtx295's (quad sli) and sound card on the slots ..Im also worried about the heat, NB,SB.

Ive owned the p6td v2, and RIIE (RIIE has bad slot placement, Video cards butt up against each other )and the p6t7 has a lot of room for different combinations in slot space.

Need advice before i pull the trigger,Thanks
