you can get G skill 1600 ram for cheaper and it's just as good as corsair ram if not better. Also you might want to think about water cooling the cpu and 4870x2 in separate loops.

That monitor has HUGE input lag, if you play FPS games, you may want to look at a 26" IPS panel, they have low input lag, 1 frame or less input lag, PLANAR makes a good 26" panel.

why not to get PSU 850W or is not enough ?

the power supply is not something you want to low or cheap on.

mine is suppose to be just as bad as the one he wants to get and I have no problems playing FPSes online even. I also own a 3007wfp and I still prefer the 3008wfp to it. it's all in your head.

lol you should try the 3008wfp! I can't even use the 3007wfp anymore.

well if he wants to keep his power supply longer than a year and oc his cpu and run 2 4870x2s an 850 watt would not be enough.

who knows maybe he wants to add more hard drives in 2 months... well you get the point.

Yeah it's almost $50 cheaper and the specs are almost the same, but I just here so many good things about corsair. Whatever Ram would help me get to 3.6-3.9ghz is the one I want!

Yeah the monitor was a lot cheaper than I thought, I will look at 26"s, I just didn't want to spend 4k+ just to run games with my 22" monitor.

Man that's expensive:shocked:, is it worth it?

Keep Going! Would I need something else to reach 3.9Ghz with this chip?

you will not be limited by the ram you could get 1300 ram but I wouldn't. any 1600 set for the i7 will do really. if you get 1600 ram don't get cas 9 go for cas 8 stuff. the memory controller is on the cpu you just need to check out the OC thread for the i7 and see what voltages you might need to put on your new setup to reach your goal. I highly suggest you water cool your cpu though because past 1.4volts on the cpu and it gets hot fast. You want to know if a 30" monitor is worth it? you got to figure you look at all the time and once you game at 2560x1600 you will not want to settle for anything less!

If you seriously cannot distinguish, that is feel, the difference in between average of 35ms of lag to 3007's benefit... well I hate to tell you this, but the problem is in your head, not his, or anybody else's who experiences input lag as very disturbing sensation.

It's not just about gaming. I could not fathom even browsing the web, let alone doing any serious work in desktop enviroment with a mouse, using a display with such a serious input lag as the 3008's

well you have not used one. Until you use both the 3007 and 3008 you really can not formulate your own opinion you only have words of others to go by. the slow response time of the 3007 (11 ms (grey-to-grey)) is very noticeable compared to the 3008 (8 ms (gray to gray)). The contrast ratio of the 3008 (3000:1 (dynamic)) blows the 3007 (700:1) out of the water. my friend has had no trouble gaming on my machine. He had complained about the perceived input lag that other have talked about prior to me getting the monitor which had me all worried because I had already bought online. However, when he played ETQW on the 3008 after I first got it I couldn't couldn't get him to even consider buying my 3007, and he didn't say one thing about imput lag. Maybe it has to do with the usb ports facing in the correct direction lol. originally the 3007 had issues at launch for a while I waited before buying the monitor and got an rev 04 and I could not find any problems that others on other forums talked about. My 3008 is a rev02 and the only complaint I have about the monitor is that it's not as wide as the 3007 is, but I got over that after a few days of using it and I would not go back to the 3007. The 3008wfp has not affected my ability to use photoshop, web browse, play games, or watch movies. People are making a big fuss over input lag because they are jealous of what others have.

LOL!!!

For me the purchase de ision was made by price point. The 3007 was so much cheaper than the 3008 when I bit...
Don't wanna get involved in the input lag dis ussion, but from what I've seen in the reviews, the gateway is inferior to the 3007. Put that with the fact that the 3007 can be had for less than the gateway and it seems like a no brainer :)

So safan, can I have your old 3007??? :D

@OP

Monitor: maybe consider HP LP2475w. SIPS panel, very low input lag, excellent colors once calibrated. Only 24 inches, but comes with 2xDIVI, 1xHDMI, 1xDisplay port, composite video, component video & S-video. Plug your pc & consoles into it, plus HDCP ready for high def movies. Very good review at TFTCentral.com for more info. Might be a bit small if you wanted a 30 inch display. I got a LP2475w for Xmas and it's terrific for gaming & watching movies.

Sound card: Might want to consider something from Auzentech with X-Fi chip. The Prelude is a very good music and gaming card. Better built card than creative's. Auzentech builds a very good card with high end audio in mind. However, you are stuck with creative based drivers, unless creative licensed Auzentech to create their own.
