morning guys. I recently have started having a weird problem. My CM body is leaking electricity. I have checked the whole body and also the body of the PSU with a test pen and there is some electricity leaking.

Cant quite decide whats the problem. Previously I didnt have this problem. I was wondering if it could be due to the following;

1. I just moved to Italy from Malaysia complete with my system. In Malaysia, we use 3 prong power sockets on 240V/50Hz whereas here in Italy its 220V/50Hz with only 2 prong sockets. Could this be the problem?

2. I am at the moment using a socket multiplier from Malaysia which is 3 prong connected to the mains at my home using a power adaptor (its sort of a travel adaptor - those who travel often know what I am talking about). Could the adaptor be the problem?

3. Could it be that the multiplier itself be the cause of the leakage? The multiplier is a 1 to 4 socket multiplier with built in fuse.

Can someone help me out here? I know that I could try and earth the casing which would probably resolve the problem but i rather take a safe approach by replacing any of the above items which is causing the problem.

thanks for the help guys. really appreciate it.

Without more information, I would have to go along with FilthySanchez. Scrap that adapter and get yourself a proper power cord as soon as possible.

In the meantime, you might be able to ground the case with a piece of wire run from a case screw to a copper water pipe or other electrical ground.

...or no ground at all. I would not worry too much about it. Without proper grounding phenomenas such as what you described are common.

How can you get ground from a plug with no ground? Or a socket. It's why I love our 240V and earthed plugs here in the UK :D (and wherever else it may be used)

try rotating 180º the power conector(not on the psu, the other end). It already helped me here. I don't have any kind of ground. btw, i cut the third pin of the power cable, it just wouldn't fit....

^ ola amigo.. tudo bom?

anyway...i just did some further testing.

1.removed the adaptor and tested the casing- leakage is still present.
2.removed the multiplier and tested the casing- leakage is still present.
3.tried switching the cables between my monitor's and the cpu-leakage is still present.

now i am really lost. i am thinking that its either a problem with the mains supply at my apartment or something has gone awfully wrong with the innards of my pc...but i doubt that very much. any other ideas guys?

it looks like the fase has been switched with the neutral. have you tested it?

i am fine. actually from malaysia but working in rome now.. previously i was working in brasil, sao paolo. anyway, the neutral is fixed within the socket. i seriously am starting to think that the problem is the mains at my apartment. ;(
