I just picked this up from ebay. Looks a pretty good buy.

Link (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2957585090)

Only info I can seem to get from google is that it seems to be a 7/16hp R404a unit, which seems pretty much unused.

Obvious questions aside (like did I pay too much for it lol), Since at the moment I have no access to R404a, can I use R134a in this?

Is anyone else out there able to get more info on this compressor than I?

Also, I have access to a 12kg bottle of R134a at my work, but I was wondering if there was any way I could put say, 1kg of it into a different container so I could bring it home and work on the system here, instead of carting it to work.

Thanks all

Looks like a pretty decent one then.

Anyone able to answer the question regarding transfering some of the R134a I have at work into a smaller container?

Also, how well is it likely to operate running R134a instead of R404a? Anyone know where I can get small quantities of R404a in the UK? ]JR[ perhaps? :) I dont really fancy shelling out for 12kgs of it :(

Cheers all.

BTW. captaincascade = where did you get the info from about the compressor? I tried google but all I came up with was that it was a 7/16hp R404a unit.

R134 will work fine, youd be better with R290 since its easy to get a comparable to R22.

As for where to buy it in less than 12kg i dunno, infact i wouldnt mind buying 12kg of it but im not sure where will sell it to me, its cheap enough really.

Yeh I guess its not bad really, just seems a waste to buy 12kgs of it.

You say R22, this unit is R404a, whats the difference?

You say R290 would give better results than R134a?

Your unit is R404 it just means is guaranteed to work @ a higher pressure than a R22 or R134a unit. Using R22/R290/R134a will all work since theyre all lower pressure than R404.

R290 is better than R134a

Ok cool, so R290 will work better than R134a, thats good since I can no doubt get propane in smaller quantities than I can other refigerant.

Ok, next question for ya ]JR[, seeing as your in the UK, any recommendations of where to get small cans of propane, any brands of gas torch or something to look out for which will do the job and be fairly easy to adapt so I can charge the system with it.

I Guess the next set of questions is about the setup itself.

Although the evap isnt yet built, Im going for what is a pretty standard copper block as per most other people on the forum (perhaps with the exception of a few such as baker18, who's blocks should be a work of art :slobber: )

The condensor I will be using is an old senfu water rad as per my other thread, any recommendations on cap tube size and lengths?

Perhaps ]JR[ could be so kind as to give me some info where I can get valves for the system (and exactly which ones I need, since Im still not 100% sure which I need)

Cheers all:D

valves and gauges from www.bes.ltd.uk edit: guages are 15098, and valves are 16006 or 16011.

ill sell you some 026" cap tube

www.tool-up.co.uk for a mapp torch and mapp for brazing your stuff together, as well as brazing supplies and propane from here too.

Wow, didnt realise mapp torches were that expensive

I guess I could use the oxy-acetalyne (sp?) plant at work to do the work, but that again means I wont be able to do it at home which is annoying.
