Found a used evga 790i ref board online for five bucks, but it has four of the cpu pins broken, is there anyway to repair these?
Or is it a lost cause to even spend 5 bucks on it

That's hard to say without knowing the exact pins that were damaged. I'd say stay away from it. If you don't know exactly what you are doing (reading the datasheets for the pins functions and knowing how to get a workaround etc.) it's a waste of time and energy. This is no 5 minute repair job and you could even damage your cpu or fry something else in the testing process.

AH, thanks for the advice. Been looking to step up to a 790i, but evga step up porgram only supports reference boards.

The problem is that the complete lga775 socket can't be changed (OK, it can be done, but it's a major pain in the ***, even for the manufacturers). The only reason why I would get the board for the price that you stated above, is that I would use teh board for spare parts. :)

If you have contacts, maybe. For asus boards they can be sent in and for $30 they will replace the socket (That's here in aust, not sure about other countries/companies)
edit: if you can get it for 5 bucks, might as well... if nothing else you can onsell it for like $20+ if its only the pins that are broken
