What would be the best and lightest firewall for Vistax64? Windows defender is pretty much useless.

Well, for one thing, Windows Defender isn't a firewall. It's anti-spyware. I think for most people who can tell the difference between a pop-up and an actual Windows error message, Windows firewall and Defender work just fine.

Just get Kaspersky Internet Security and be done. Covers firewall, AV, etc.

To be honest I really didnt like it. Its as slow as Mcafee and the firewall is way too strict. I loved ESET Security, but I just got NOD32 for $10 on Newegg. I figured I would use Spybot SD. Now I just need a firewall. I have never actually used Windows firewall or Defender. The service is disabled now.

If you want a FW, get a router. Blocks any and all incoming traffic that you did not request.
If you want something that will protect you from malware and viruses that you've either requested or came over on a USB drive or similar, that's another can of worms.

Get Agnitum Outpost FW, best one out there.
Very customizable as well, you can turn on/off pretty much anything you want.
The combo Nod32 and Outpost is unbeatable.

Aside from hardware (router), Kaspersky IS. Fastest one I've used, very configurable and has never let me down.

Comodo do a decent firewall/AV combination however I think the lightest firewall for an X64 system is Jetico.

I'm on 4 vista64 machines.. I use a router as the hardware firewall, and the default vista firewall as the software firewall.
default defender for spyware.. then avast for AV.. http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
on my main rig I also use spyblaster and spybot just for extra layers of spyware protection..

http://www.spybot.com/index2.html
all are free, though you do have to free email register avast home edition to get a full functionality key.

Comodo Firewall hands down.
Probably the best firewall in the world.™ And it's free.

This is like telling someone not to bother with condoms, just be smart and pull out at the right time and you won't have any problems, ever.
This is bad advice and unfortunately, I see it too often here.

This, Comodo pisses all over the competition.

I work with a guy that practices what you're preaching, he asks me regularly to help him reformat and re-install windows because he's caught a new virus.

i'd use vista own build one .
for firewalling it's good enough.
for the other internet stuff like viruses, trojans, worm, adware, spyware, malware
i'd use avast and spybot .
