I have an XFX nForce 780 sli board (MB-N780-ISH9) running an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 with 4 gB OCZ ram and a pair of EVGA 8600 GTS 640mB video cards running in SLI mode.I have an Antec 600w Neo power supply and a Creative X-FI Fatality gamer sound card.
All was well with no problems until just a few weeks ago.I started having random BSOD's (very seldom getting the same message or reason twice).Since it was the origional install of Windows XP Pro 64,I figured a format and clean install would cure the troubles,so I did it.Updated all drivers,BIOS and everything. After a few days the thing suddenly took forever to boot up,and then took two or three times where it wouldnt boot at all.The "windows loading "screen would come up,and then just sit there and roll.No boot.I went into safe mode and checked the device manager and was showing no SM Bus drivers installed. That was a clean install just a few days before.
I re installed them and it just seemed like it wasn't running up to snuff.Fire up Left 4 Dead that played fine before and it would crash with a hard lock and a looping sound of what ever sound was playing at the time.I looked everywhere in the4 system but couldn't find anything that was wrong.
I replaced the CMOS battery with a new one,ran AVG anti virus,C Cleaner, spybot,Trend Micro and Kapersky online scanner's looking for a virus or something causing the problem.Malwarebytes anti malware came up clean also.I posted a Hijackthis log as I couldn't find anything there either.
I opened the case and re seated all the cards and cables, checked all the power connections and everything else I could find.Didnt work.
I finally ended up deleting all nVidia software and left just the drivers in place. The bootup seems better and the game didnt lock up last time I played to check it,but I wasn't on very long so I'm not sure if its fixed or not now.
I have a support ticket on the site but haven't received a reply as of yet.
Any ideas where the problem lies?
Thanks folks.
