I came across a couple reviews called the "top ten cpu coolers for" Q2 and Q3 of 2008. Both quarters tests were run on 10 or 15 HSFs and in both these two quarters, the Noctua NH-12P was NUMBER ONE. Unfortunately, when the stock fan is used this HS drops way towards the bottom, so, now I have a NF-12P sitting on my desk here :(
Look for these fans in the water cooling sections of your local computer parts store. The one I got was in a Danger Den bag.
Dropped both my idle and load core temps about 17 degrees C before I overclocked the board and the GPU.
Running my Q9450 at 2.83Ghz instead of the stock 2.67 and core temps are holding in low 50C range. Under load they go up only a couple degrees C.
Good HS and F combination :)

I don't know what you mean, since my Noctua HS cools my o/c'ed E8400 just fine with the NF-P12 fan. Actually, I have the older (original) HS, the NH-U12 model with the copper pipes. The current NH-U12P averages about 1.5° C cooler than the older NH-U12.
Also, I haven't tried it with 2x fans yet. I'm sure that would show even better numbers.
You didn't say which model of Yate Loon fan, and then there is noise vs. CFM to consider. How quiet is the YL?

the U12P should be fine with the stock P12 fan, but it will depend on very good case exaust. the U12P also prefers 2 fans.
that being said...
the U12P can do much better with more RPM then the stock 1300s ;)
personally, i use the C12P heatsink :D

The stock Noctua NF-12P is rated at 54 cfm and is supposed to be very quiet... never used it :( The Yate Loon High speed fan is on the plus side of 40db but pushes 88 cfm in high pressure situations (radiators, heat sinks etc). Model D12SH-12, sorry - no red lights but DD website has the 80mm with red leds
Why not use the San Ace fan which has 109 cfm at 39 dB ? Why not do a test of the fans yourself since you have both of them there instead of trusting the review that closely ?

Yes obviously, but then more RPM usually = more dB's. The whole idea of the high-pressure Noctua fans is sufficient cooling but lowered noise. As such, I think they do a great job in both.
Which is why I'm confused at MaadDaawg's original post, since 2x P12 fans should do well and much quieter than a single high-output Yate or whatever.
Example: right now I'm doing 3893MHz @ 1260-1320 RPM (single NF-P12) with 2 instances of F@H, ambient is 20.2° C, CPU temps are 46°/49° C in Real Temp 2.70. That's not my max clocks on this proc, but not shabby for a single 12cm @ 1300 and you can't hear it.
But if going for a max o/c then sure, a high RPM/CFM output is better.

RPM is RPM, Noctua fan blades are designed for quiet not performance. any s-flex zalman panaflo will beat it RPM to RPM.

^ No kidding. Isn't that basically what I said in my post you quoted?

no?
i took what you said as; more rpm will perform better at the cost of dba.
what im saying; noctua performance is low per RPM.
example...downspeed a Zalman F3 down to 1300rpm and it will perform better then the Noctua P12 1300rpm.

I did say that. But I also said...
"...The whole idea of the high-pressure Noctua fans is sufficient cooling but lowered noise...."
which is pretty much equivalent to:
"...Noctua fan blades are designed for quiet not performance. ..."
The key being sufficient cooling. I didn't say performance cooling re the Noc's.

I'll trade some led uv yate loon 73 cfm or slipstream 110 cfm fans for your noctua's?

^ Thx but I don't need HO fans. The Nocs are doing a fine job and not making a lot of noise about it. :bravo:

Nice! That's why i need some of these or s-flex for my rad! I need Silent! These yates are hit or miss for me.
I just wish the silent fans came with leds!!!

Yeah the Nocs, S-Flex, Nexus, or try the Panaflo HydroWave.
