Like tiro uspsss
Besides putting HDD as first device to boot, you need to go to hard drives (on BIOS) and with the + key move up to 1st place the HDD that has your windows.

no m2, just a quick format, do you know how long it will take to do a full format on a 1.5TB disk:shocked:

please dont tell me that was the problem all along.:(

and yes i changed the boot order to HD first

i did have multi HD but i removed them all still the same problem

and yes i have the correct HD as the first boot HD

I highly doubt that that is the problem..
what mobo u have?
is the HDD recognised in BIOS? If so, does it recognise it correctly? (ie size etc)

I'm almost sure that's the problem.
But you don't have to format whole drive, just the OS partition.

its a new asus m7.... wiht a phenom BE 9950

yes it loks like it sees the hd in bios, and correct size and everything...

M2, ive never done that, just used all the hd for the C drive

is it difficult to put the os in its own partition?
what sort of space should you give it?
how does it work if you have more programs to install ?
...... ?
as you can see i have not done that kind before, so im a real n00b with that.

1. Separating OS from data is advantageous. In case when you reinstall OS, you format one partition and your data sits securely on another one. Also, the first partition is the outermost=fastest, assigning it for OS boosts speed..though slightly.
2. How much space? Depends. I have 16 GB, but almost all my software is on another one, you'll probably need much more. 100 GB? 150?
3. There's one drawback too: when you run out of space on one partition, you can either resize partitions ( which is risky ) or keep data scattered between the two. With well chosen size of the OS partition it's not a problem, you'll know how much do you need the second time you'll be doing this. :p:
4. During installation at the page where you have choice of partitions, you can delete the current one create others. I don't remember details, but you shouldn't have any problems. Definitely nothing hard.

no nothing is working on it now. the only way i can get it to boot up is to leave the cd in the tray.

im thinking something has to be bad on the cd. i tried a full format of 3 different drives that all were folding last week, running xp 32. i deleted the partition, did a full format, installed xp64 with no problems, and still cant boot into xp64 without the cd in :( im about ready to cry
