View Full Version : Reasonable price for a dual evap, custom R404 system?

Hey everyone,
As the subject implies, I'm thinking of having a dual evaporator (one for CPU, one for video card), R404 or R502-based phase change system? Also, if there are better refrigerants out there (lower temps) for which reasonably priced compressors? I am looking for -50C under 200w load (quite lofty, I know). Can anybody give me a rough estimate (in USD or CAD) of how much such a beast would reasonably cost?
Of course, if I've omitted some majorly price-altering information, please tell me so I can clarify. :)
Thanks,
Mike

Baker18 has a dual evap system that's quite NICE...BENCHING AT -45c...........ON R22.

Well then that's what I want. How much? (approximately) :)
Are we talking $500? $1000? $2000?

all depends on the quality of work and the amont of time.
but if you wish to ask baker...pm him.
i am only guessing...500 to 750 sounds about rightfor a basic setup.
but please we dont want to be discussing work prices for sevices between 2 people in the forum.that should be handled in a pm please.

Does that include a baker CPU and GPU block? :slobber:
Well, I'm asking for my information, not because I need a quote - I plan on having this done locally (shipping would be prohibitive).
Hmm... I could sell 2 Mach I's for $750 (for the 2), right?
1) One is like brand new, has been used for maybe 12 hours of operation, black topless unit.
2) One is modified (extended tube, can reach 180 degrees [onto a horizontal mobo :)]) with utter ease, so there's no danger of cracking. Beige topless unit, definately not "like new" :), but functionally perfect and cosmetically almost-like-new. :)
I'm assuming such a system would be better than two Prometeias (one of which has to be crudely mounted on my 9800 Pro ), temperature wise? It would be nice to be able to run everything phase changed cooled without having it look like this:

well....it may not be that much better than what you have....
as far as cooling proformance goes...1 seperate compressor per block will cool better than 2 evaps on one compressor...and it takes tons more work to get a twin evap running too.

Ugh. Back to square one(?). :(
Mind you, once it IS working.. It would work fine, yes? So I can leave it to the builder to make it work. :D

well the only reason i started making twin and triple evap systems because it was a challenge to do.
but the proformance isnt what it could be on a singel evap/comp system.
a twin is the max you can run and still get a reasonable temp on a load.for ultimate low temps stay single evap on one compressor.
although i run twins and triples...they take more time and headache that they are worth sometimes...;)

But, two single compressor/condenser/evaporator systems would cost almost twice as much as a single dual evap one, wouldn't it? :(
Basically, I'm just trying to get (slightly) better performance in a reasonably compact (one and a half times the size of a mach I, I guess) phase change system. And it has to cool both my CPU and video card. Would I be better off just heavily modifying both Prometeias to fit on the CPU and GPU while stacked under the main tower?

well yes it will save room and will cool very well.even better than the prometias you have now...
you can stack the proms on ontop of another..i just made one for a man,he will have his this week i hope.but that was the last of that.stacking proms is alot of work...
but they work great ontop of on another

The thing is, I don't have a mount for the GPU Prometeia... So it'd be pretty hard to keep it on the card, even if I used a C-clamp (especially with the weight of the entire hose pulling it down  ). Plus, I'll need to drill a huge hole through the almost brand new black Prometeia...
I guess I can try... But I have a funny feeling there is no way it will work.
But you do think I could get a dual evap system for the amount that I could sell the two Prometeia's for, yes? That's basically all I want - a dual evap system (using baker's blocks :slobber: :)) that cools a bit better than the Prometeias. I don't need the Prometeia's electronics (which are really nothing but a temp sensor and an LCD, both of which can be bought for a relatively low price ;)).

the right compressor for your aplication alone is about 300$ wholesale. you know, i never realized how expensive all this stuff is untill i had to buy it with my own money:( :( :(

My entire cascade currently costs less than $100. Why? Because I found a lot of stuff for free, or at least very cheap.
Just wait with selling your prommies until you have found a nice compressor+condenser second hand. It will save you an awful lot of money.
