Hey, I've heard that AMD's perform better with faster, better memory because of their huge memory bandwidth compared to Intel, Especially the Phenom 9950, (Thing's a Beast :D).
So anyways, would using DDR2 1066 instead of 800 give me a performance boost on the Phenom 9950, and how much? Like 3 or 4%, more, less?
Thanks!

Less, except for some data compression programs and games:

Thanks, looks like there's not much of a differencr from 533 to 1066, so I'll get like 1% from 800 to 1066.
Do you think DDR3 would boost it by a good amount? Or would the timings on DDR3 compared to DDR2 make the boost go down?

I think additional memory bandwidth doesn't give great benefits on the desktop (memory latency is more important) so I personally expect something similar to the DDR1-DDR2 transition. From this Xbitlabs comparison, it took DDR2-800 CAS4 to beat DDR1-400 CAS2:

So I'd imagine it'll take something like DDR3-1600 to have a measurable improvement in performance other in certain bandwidth hungry apps.

It depends on NB clocks as well though.
Low latency RAM is more usefull with <2.4Ghz NB, however high speed RAM is a lot more usefull when you've like 2.4Ghz or even higher clocked NB.
For the rest I dont know what DDR3 will bring. We'll have to upgrade to it anyway sooner or later, no big deal really:rolleyes:
