2x2GB Exceleram DDR1150
Sapphire Radeon HD4870X2
3Ware 9650SE Raid Controller

some DDR3 board - don't now since they don't exist yet :p:
some 4GB of some DDR3 - don't know since I'm not going to base a purchase a few months from now off today's offerings and prices

And using it with my current 4870, cooling with my water loop :D

Rammsteiner, I have an Audigy 2 ZS and you're right, creative's drivers SUCK. But, I nabbed a copy of Daniel_K's drivers before he took them down and they work really well :D

ASUS79-t SB750 Mobos are considered Dragon Platform,, where the SB600 were Spiders ATM. At least from what ive read ,,thus you have a Dragon minus the Phenom !!.

Ah its a "Juvinile Dragon Brat" :slap:untill the 940BE drops in ,,than it will be "who's your Daddy Dragon":slapass:spanking the B3 and then some.

Gonna use my current gaming rig also! Getting a P2 940BE for it. The next upgrade after that will be a SSD or maybe two.

ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe/WiFi (currently running a 6000x2@3500)... I really love this mobo (except the raid controllers) and want to test how well it clocks the P2 before I consider upgrading it.
4x2 gb Mushkin Extreme DDR2 1066mhz.
Thermalright 120 Extreme cooler
Antec P180 case
Corsair 620w PSU
Powercolor 4870 512mb driving a HP LP3065 30" and a Lacie PhotonVisionII 20"
2x 74Gb Raptors raid0 + misc WD 500gb drives.
Vista Business 64

The wait is driving me insane as I've been sitting out on the Phenom for a year now! And I'm glad I did :)

Why on earth would you waste your money on a Blue Ray Burner? The Players are expensive as hell although they have come down allot, but the Media is $8.00 Per Disk:rolleyes: Sorry would be more practical to put it into a HTPC build and get your groove on that way.

Hey guys, is anyone contemplating waiting for the AM3 boards or do you think the gain is too small to warrant upgrading if you already have AM2+ mobos?

ChristmasGT
12-08-2008, 06:32 PM
I decided to hold off on DDR3 due to the price / performance. I picked up 8GB of G.Skill DDR2 for under 90 bucks which to me is insane. maybe i'll move to the next chipset (Q3 09 isn't it?) if DDR3 prices are cheaper

I haven't had AMD since dual optys, would this be a good board? I like the 4x cross fire support. ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe, I was thinking of getting this a P940 and a pair of 4870s since they are way down now.

I currently have:
Phenom 9600 BE (heavily cold-bugged)
MSI K9A2 Platinum - thinking of getting a DFI 790FXB
4 x 2GB DDR2-1066 (G.Skill Pi)
2 x XpertVision 4870's (Sonic edition) - half thinking about swapping them for reference 4870's

I'm planning on getting a 940 or 945

M3A79-T is one of the better boards, although DFI has some nice ones but it seems like DFI :banana::banana::banana:ed something up regarding MOSFET. Think Ive more PCB parts in my head than brains by now but well, DFI has such an awesome BIOS:cool:

Some people who bought the Foxconn A79A-S are very happy. It does look very nice but... the price:eek:

It Does,,

You will need to use 266htt to clock all four @ 1066 ,,You will also need to raise the NBchipset to 2.8volts (HTvolts) You will also need to Raise the NBvolts above 1.35v or higher to stabilize IMC with high freqency ram when running all four sticks. :D292htt for 1168+mhz..2x2gig and 2x1gig tested. 4x1gig tested.

1066 divider works with 2x2gigs with two slots.. if you want 4gigs with four slots you will need to raise the HTT..to use all 4x1gigs in dual channel @ 1066.

ive already done this and the Mobo can Reach 300htt. The 45nm will easilly let you do this compared to 65nm which is sensitive with the IMC .Most ive run in 1066 mode is 1204mhz @3.55ghz..

The 45nm has better IMC .

You can run 2gigs by 4slots even ,just dont use 1066divider. use 800 divider and raise the HTT.. This means Buy 1066ram and clock it up bro:up:

Also a 2x2gig kit will work just fine in 1066divider.

Note: 4x2gigs or 8gigs total will need Higher NBvolts and Htvolts no matter what. You may even need to raise the Ram volts up from 2.2v to say 2.25 or 2.3v to compensate for all slots being used... This is also why the ASUS has two phases dedicated for the RAM slots and NB.

This is also why the ASUS has two phases dedicated for the RAM slots and NB.So basically, I still can't use 1:2.66 divider with 4 sticks, but I can raise the HTT speed up to 266 still using 1:2, which raises NB speed too?
If it can clock that high regardless, it would make me wonder why they even restrict the RAM divider

the NDA isn't making it easy to see Deneb's full capabilities, but if it can get that high HTT speeds, that would be nice.

I have 4 x 2GB (8GB) G.Skill Pi DDR2-1066, and I've got no problem going to 2.3V with it if I need to (though it's been working fine at 2.1V on my K9A2 Platinum @ 5-5-5-15, at 1:2.66)
My 9600 BE clocks like :banana::banana::banana: even compared to other Agena chips (severely cold-bugged).

what I will probably do is buy the X4 Phenom II 940 3Ghz and put it in my current system and leave my system alone until it can no longer play the newest games, graphic and cpu wise. My graphics card right now is fine, my cpu is probably bottlenecking it. My friend is still running a 1950XTX Radeon with his Quad core phenom 9950 BE and all settings on high (maybe not max tho)

My current system is the AM2+ DFI LanParty UT 790FX-M2R, will the Phenom II 940 3GHz work in it?

After that I will wait for DDR3 and the better NB/SB

I was thinking of something like this:

Asrock AOD790GX/128M
8Gb Kingmax DDR2 800MHz RAM (4x2Gb)
ATI HD4850

About Phenom II...
940 is out of my price range, will be getting 920 if the price is right, or I will be waiting for a cheaper (and not too much slower, I hope) Propus.

I'm still waiting for a decent review and some test with the cheaper 920 model, wanna see some serious overclocking (locked multiplier) :)

Anyone knows when NDA on Phenom II ends?

that's some good information on the voltages but I am not that convinced yet the 45nm is better in terms of imc. so far I could run some decent clockspeed but trying 1066mhz on my ram (2x2gb ocz reaper as my 2x1gb cellshock benchkit is dead :( ) was a no go...I also could not do higher htt like on my old phenom during a quick test yet. still very promising what I could see on my A79-s so far...new boards seem to work without a bios update, I also used an old one for the initial runs ;)

PC Power and Cooling 750w

The only thing I'm undecided on is the GPU. I don't know if I want 2x 4850's, a 48701gb or a 4870x2.

it seems to me that the rigs mentioned isn't really phenom2 rig has they can be used for other am2 stuff :(

Isnt that a good thing?? being compatable with other parts in your system so you dont have to spend a ton of money upgrading on new components? Or you like it better to have to buy memory/cpu/motherboard?

Sometimes I wonder about the responses we see in these threads:confused:

for those of you running with an older DFI 790fx-M2R or M2RS, with the SB600, there is a new beta bios dated 12/1/2009, a small PMW addition AND.................

http://www.dfi.com.tw/portal/CM/cmproduct/XX_cmproddetail/XX_WbProdsWindow?action=e&downloadType=biosTab&windowstate=normal&mode=view&downloadFlag=true&itemId=533

click on beta, then go for it...

45nm microcode, woohoo!!!!! it is as simple as slipping in a cpu only, the only thing that would be misssing is the 1066 ramski setting normally activated with a Phenom, I believe...already loaded on my rig, works great, can't wait.....

I saw a report here @Extreme of someone already hitting 4.1gig+ on air (Phenom II) with an older SB600 board.

so, for the simplest of installs, cpu only, one can upgrade to the 45nm Phenom, or any other 45nm AM2+ nugget, saving some hard earned for other stuff until the new MB's show good maturity....

AMD just sent out the microcode to MB manu's, amazingly fast for DFI to implement it......others will follow or already have posted bios updates...

I don't know whether Phenom II will be supported by my old mobo ASUS M2A-VM 690G SB600 chipsets... but currently it serves me well for both my Athlon X2 5000+ BE and Phenom 9850BE.... I'm planning to buy ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe to squeeze more performance out of my memory timings and the phenom itself. What do you guys think?

Are there going to be any new Mobos released along with the 940BE?
Or should I just grab an M3A79-T?

Also would the M3A79-T be able to run 4x2GB 1066 Ram? I was going to grab some Mushkin BlackAscent.

Hopefully someone does.

Also does the M3A79-T handle well? My last Am2 board was the M2N Sli-Deluxe and I loved it.

I'm going to run an old x2 4200 until the 940 is out :P

Ya.. I think it does very well.. real stable board in my opinion. I had no issue running 3.4ghz in Win XP 64bit..

Well, you're the m... tictac really:p: But I think 2x2GB does offer a tad more over 4x1GB. I cant be sure, but wouldnt more modules influence the overclockability of the NB as welll?

The way 2gig sticks clock Now and the low price.. id go 2gig sticks. Although 45nm will probally fair a lot better than B3 when it comes to Ram and IMC.

If Tic has 4x1gig already ,, id use it. It ya need to Buy New Ram get 2x2gigs of some High Freqency fast stuff,,

ofcoarse on the cheapo though:D

Well, i'm getting an all new pc...

i'm kinda lost in the specs thought...

Do you think the ATI graphic card will perform better in the PII system or using a Nvidia will be just the same? ( GTX 260 vs 4870 ) ...

Just need to know if the PII SB750 + 790FX system is optimized for ATI cards in some way or ... not :)

Thank you all
